Characterizing the genome-wide dynamic regulation of gene expression is important and will be of much interest in the future. However, there is currently no established method for identifying differentially expressed genes in a time course study. Here we propose a significance method for analyzing time course microarray studies that can be applied to the typical types of comparisons and sampling schemes. This method is applied to two studies on humans. In one study, genes are identified that show differential expression over time in response to in vivo endotoxin administration. Long-Lived Worms And Aging, Yuan Luo

Several investigators have generated long-lived nematode worms (Caenorhabditis elegans) in the past decade by mutation of genes in the organism in order to study the genetics of aging and longevity. Dozens of longevity assurance genes (LAG) that dramatically increase the longevity of this organism have been identified. All long-lived mutants of C. elegans are also resistant to environmental stress, such as high temperature, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and ultraviolet irradiation. Double mutations of some LAGS further extended life span up to 400%, providing more insight into cellular mechanisms that put limits on the life span of organisms. With …

For an increasing number of older citizens, retirees ages 65 and up, casino gambling has become a new form of recreation and entertainment. Older adults now form the largest age group of annual visitors to Las Vegas and have become a significant segment of the population who frequent riverboat, Indian reservation, and the commercial gambling casino industry.

This NebFact discusses the prevalence, gambling opportunities, consequences, and common signs of senior gambling. It also discusses where to go for help for these senior gamblers.
