Acmaeodera (Coleoptera: Buprestidae): A New Species Of Acmaeodera Eschscholtz, 1829 From The Southwestern United States, With Three New Synonymies, New State And Host Records, And A Key To Species Occurring East Of The Rocky Mountain States, Jason A. Hansen

Acmaeodera natlovei new species (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) is described from the southwestern United States. Details of phenology, geographic range, larval, flower and adult host plants, and similar spe­cies are discussed. Acmaeodera yuccavora Knull, 1962 is newly synonymized with Acmaeodera conoidea Fall, 1899. Acmaeodera thoracata Knull, 1974 and A. bryanti Van Dyke, 1953 are newly synonymized with Acmaeodera neoneglecta Fisher, 1949. New state and host records are reported for United States. A key to the 46 species of Acmaeodera occurring east of the Rocky Mountain states is provided.

This paper presents a taxonomic review of the genus Boreocanthon Halffter, restored generic sta­tus, a group of ball-rolling (telocoprid) dung beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae) endemic to North America. Three new species of Phaea Newman, 1840 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) are described from Me­xico: P. quadrimaculata Wappes and Santos-Silva, new species; P. aurantia Wappes and Santos-Silva, new species; and the third, P. tavakiliani Wappes and Santos-Silva, new species, whose specimens were found within the type series of Phaea rufiventris Bates, 1872. Hence, a lectotype is designated for the latter and the new species is described herein.

Reinstatement Of Carposina Ottawana Kearfott, 1907 (Lepidoptera: Carposinidae) As A Valid Species, James D. Young, James A. Robertson

Carposina ottawana Kearfott, 1907 (Lepidoptera: Carposinidae), revised status, formerly considered a synonym of C. sasakii Matsumura, 1900, is returned to species status. Morphological features that separate the Asian species C. sasakii and C. niponensis Walsingham, 1900 from the North American C. ottawana are described and illustrated. A heuristic maximum likelihood (ML) analysis based on the mitochondrial gene cyto­chrome oxidase I (DNA barcode) further supports C. ottawana and C. sasakii as distinct taxa.

Cyrtinus pygmaeus (Haldeman, 1847) (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae: Lamiinae) is redescribed and newly recorded from Mexico. The female of Decarthria stephensii Hope, 1834 is also redescribed, the number of specimens in the type series is corrected, as is the depository of the types, and the species is newly recorded from Dominica. Two new species of Cyrtinus LeConte, 1852 are described from Mexico: C. fisheri Wappes, Santos-Silva and Nascimento; and C. howdeni Wappes, Santos-Silva and Nascimento. A key to species of Decarthria Hope, 1834 (adapted from an earlier key to Cyrtinini) is provided.

In the course of working on new species of North American Phyllophaga Harris, 1827 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae) some synonyms have been found and are proposed here. New synonymies: Phyllophaga knausii (Schaeffer, 1907) is synonymized with Phyllophaga sociata (Horn, 1878); Phyllophaga chippewa Saylor, 1939 is synonymized with Phyllophaga rugosa (Melsheimer, 1845); and Phyllophaga falta Sanderson, 1950 is synonymized with Phyllophaga bipartita (Horn, 1887). Lectotypes are here designated for the following species: Listrochelus knausii Schaeffer, Listrochelus sociatus Horn, and Lachnosterna bipartita Horn. A neotype for Ancylonycha rugosa Melsheimer is here designated from the Horn Collection.

A taxonomic overview for the fritillary genus Speyeria Scudder (= Argynnis Fabricius) and its placement within the Heliconiinae (Nymphalidae) is presented. Detailed descriptions and illustrations of the complete external morphology of A. conica (Say), and descriptions and illustrations of the male and female external genitalia of the species of united States Acanalonia are given. The principal genitalic features used to separate species included: male-shape and length of the aedeagal caudal and lateral processes, and presence of caudal extensions; female -shape of the 8th abdominal segment and the number of teeth on the gonapophysis of the 8th segment.

The dictyopharid planthopper genus Phylloscelis is reviewed and a key to the four species provided. The morphology ofadult male and female P. pallescens Germar, P. atra Germar, P. rubra Ball, and P. pennata Ball is described and illustrated in detail. The species are separated principally by color patterns, wing venation, and features of the male and female external genitalia.

Ten new species of Tetraleurodes (bireflexa, caulicola, chiuela, confusa, dorsirugosa, mexicana, perseae, pseudacaciae, quercicola, tuberculosa) are described and four previously known species are redescribed. The acaciae group consisting of seven species is proposed, and a key to the acaciae group and 12 North American species is provided. In addition, herberti Penny is synonymized with acaciae (Quaintance), nudus Sampson and Drews is synonymized with fici Quaintance and Baker, and stanfordi (Bemis) is synonymized with perileuca (Cockerell). Aleurotrachelus cacaorum Bondar is reassigned to Tetraleurodes, and T. papilliferus Sampson and Drews is reassigned to Aleurotrachelus.
