A multi-state and interdisciplinary team was formed to address the Extension and research needs of CLRDV, an emerging cotton disease with high potential impact for U.S. cotton production. In 2017, CLRDV was identified in AL and Auburn University immediately formed an interdisciplinary working group composed of plant breeders, plant pathologists, entomologists, and agronomists. Since then, scientists from ten other states have joined the CLRDV group. Thus, allowing research to be coordinated efficiently and best deploy limited resources to attend the stakeholder’s needs. The CLRDV group produces and shares new and relevant information with the scientific community and cotton producers alike.

Much of the research on viruses has concentrated on their disease causing ability. The creation model biomatrix theory predicts that viruses play a beneficial role in cells and organisms. In this report we present a new theory which proposes that mammalian phages (bacteriophages), the most abundant organism associated with mammals, guard and regulate growth of the mammalian microbiome. We base this theory on nearly a century of published evidence that demonstrates that phage can insert into the bacterial genome and cover the surface of bacteria. The aim of the study was to investigate the relation between porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV). Here, we constructed a dynamic clinical experimental model in which sows were infected with PRRSV. The stability of the experimental model was surveyed by detecting the levels of antibodies against classical swine fever virus (CSFV) or PRRSV, respectively. In both group A (infected group) and group B (healthy group), the CSFV antibody level was not significantly different (P > 0.05). Influenza is responsible for millions of hospitalizations and deaths every year. Treating the influenza virus has become increasingly difficult since mutant viruses have rendered previously viable drugs ineffective. New drug-screening procedures are now necessary in order to speed up the process of viable drug discovery. Molecular simulations have proven valuable for studying drug effectiveness in wild-type flu viruses, but little has been done on prevailing influenza mutants. How Important Is Viral Effect On The Measure Bacterial Growth In Western Subtropical Pacific Coastal Water?, An-Yi Tsai, Gwo-Ching Gong, Kuo-Ping Chiang, Jie Hung

Bacterial growth rates were determined in natural seawater samples using two different methodological approaches: incubation in dialysis bags, and a modification of the dilution approach. Bacterial growth rates estimated for the dialysis bag varied from 0.026 h-1 (April) to 0.208 h-1 (August). Bacterial growth rates in 0.2 µm and 30 kDa size-fractionated series ranged from 0.038 to 0.094 h-1 and 0.078 to 0.42 h-1, respectively. Furthermore, in all of our samples, growth rates in the 30 kDa fractionated series (grazer and virus-free diluent) were higher than in the 0.2 µm series (grazer-free diluent) or in the dialysis bag incubations.

The larval parasitoids and larval diseases of Malacosoma neustria (L.) (Lepidoptera: Lasiocampidae) in various host plants were investigated in Erzurum Province, Turkey, during 2004 and 2005. The larval parasitoids were reared in a laboratory, and a total of 29 parasitoid species were established in association with the larvae of M. neustria in the families Tachinidae (Diptera), Braconidae, Ichneumonidae, and Chalcidoidea (Hymenoptera). Of the 6 tachinid parasitoids, Pales pavida (Meigen) was the most prevalent species and accounted for 25% of the tachinid records. Plant samples were collected from the main apple growing provinces of Turkey in order to evaluate the incidence of 4 important apple virus diseases during spring 2004. Collected leaves and shoots were tested using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for Apple mosaic virus (ApMV), Apple stem grooving virus (ASGV) and Apple chlorotic leaf spot virus (ACLSV). This study was carried out in order to serologically and haematologically determine the prevalance of Bovine Leukaemia Virus infection in cattle raised in Kars and environs.For this purpose a total of 443 blood samples and 383 milk samples belonging to the various breeds (Zavot, Holstein, Brown-Swiss and Native), and sexes (383 female, 60 male)were examined serologically (Agar Gel Immunodiffusion (AGID)and Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA))and haematologically (lymphocyt counts, total leucocyt counts and haematocrit value). It has been considered worthwhile to update previous reviews of microbiological immunocytochemistry in order to identify areas of current importance in this continually expanding area of research. Publications in virology, bacteriology and protozoology indicate a continued interest in immunocytochemistry. Deployment of colloidal gold techniques is almost universal in these applications.
