Ty4 Retrotransposon Presence In Yeast Strains, Maria P. Walters, Eric T. Gillock

SACAD: John Heinrichs Scholarly and Creative Activity Days

Yeast is used in everyday life. It is important to understand the genetic components of yeast. In various laboratory yeast strains, there are findings of TY1, TY2, and TY3. TY1 through TY3 have been well studied, while TY4 and TY5 are retroelements that have yet to be thoroughly studied. It is known that TY4 is found at only one to three copies per haploid genome.

TY4 is a retrotransposon, which shares similarities with retroviruses, making it essential to study its presence in

yeast. This study aims to evaluate the prevalence of TY4 among lab strains, brewing strains, and baking strains …

Evaluation Of Larval Culture And Conventional Pcr Methods For The Detection Ofstrongylus Vulgaris In Equines Of Iran, Alireza Alborzi, Sara Larki, Abbas Zeinali

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Strongylus vulgaris (S. vulgaris) is known as the equin's most pathogenic nematode due to the extraintestinal migration in mesenteric arterial vessels. Since a few kinds of S. vulgaris can threat the animals' health and working efficiency, high precision and early detection of strongylid nematodes is essential. Traditionally, the larval coproculture method was used frequently for identification of strongylid species. The technique of larval culture is costly, time consuming, and does not have sufficient accuracy and reliability. Here, we critically evaluated the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with larval culture methods for the detection of S. vulgaris eggs in fecal samples. To …

The present study was designed to determine genotypes of adipocyte determination and differentiation-dependent factor 1 (ADD1)/sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1c (SREBP1c) in South Anatolian Red (SAR) and East Anatolian Red (EAR) cattle. Fifty cattle from the SAR breed and 43 cattle from the EAR breed were used. Intron 7 of the ADD1/SREBP1c gene containing an 84 bp indel mutation was amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The number of SS genotyped individuals with the 84 bp deletion associated with fatty acid composition and growth traits were very low in both breeds. The frequency of the LL genotype with the 84 bp …
