Manipulating Genome Of Diploid Potato Inbred Line Solanum Chacoense M6 Using Selectable Marker Gene, Sarbesh Das Dangol, İlknur Yel, Mehmet Emi̇n Çalişkan, Allah Bakhsh

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The development of transgenic potatoes is imperative to investigate various gene functions as well as to develop robust potato varieties resistant to different biotic and abiotic stresses. Directing a potato breeding program from cultivated tetraploids to self-compatible diploid lines will be highly helpful for potato breeders. However, diploid potatoes are considered recalcitrant to regeneration. We aimed to develop a protocol for the transformation of diploid Solanum chacoense M6 potatoes using leaf, internodes, and microtubers as the explants. Agrobacterium tumefaciens strain GV2260 harboring pBIN19 expression vector containing gusA gene (interrupted by an intron to induce expression from eukaryotic cells) was used …

Comparative Analysis Of Genetic Diversity Among Chinese Watermelon Germplasmsusing Ssr And Srap Markers, And Implications For Future Genetic Improvement, Pangqiao Wang, Qiong Li, Jianbin Hu, Yan Su

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The genetic diversity of watermelon [Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. & Nakai] in China, the world's largest producer of watermelon fruits, has not been examined. Two molecular markers, sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) and simple sequence repeat (SSR), were used to investigate the genetic variation and genetic relationship among 54 Chinese watermelon accessions, as well as 7 accessions from Africa, the United States, and Japan. SRAP assay generated 312 bands, of which 163 were polymorphic, while SSR assay detected 101 alleles with 87 polymorphic alleles and 114 genotypes. A comparative analysis of the diversity index, effective multiplex ratio, and marker index of …

Breeding For Improved Feed Conversion Efficiency, Alan Lymbery

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

Alan Lymbery reports on a trial that has started at Vasse Research Atation to investigate the impact of genetic improvement on feed conversion efficiency on costs of production.

Breeding Sheep For Worm Resistance, John Karlsson, Johan Greeff, Julia Harris Jan 1995

Breeding Sheep For Worm Resistance, John Karlsson, Johan Greeff, Julia Harris

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

Sheep production os one of Western Australia's most important agricultural industries. However, it is faced with the serious threat of sheep worm populations becoming increasingly resistant to the available drenches.

Although it's not a 'quick fix' solution, part of the long term answer may be selection for sheep with greater resistance to worms.
