Association Between Physical Activity Resource Quality And Use In Mexicans Through Objective Observation, Ann Pacheco, Erica Soltero, Scherezade K. Mama, Rebecca E. Lee

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

Purpose: Nearly three-fourths (69.5%) of the Mexican population aged 15 and older is overweight or obese, and 37.7% fail to meet physical activity (PA) recommendations of 150 minutes per week. The prevalence of obesity in Mexican children has tripled since 1980 and is due to the imbalance between energy intake and expenditure. PA may reduce the prevalence of obesity in Mexican adults and youth. PA resources (PARs), such as parks and plazas, may aid in this effort, but little is known about the quality of resources in Mexico and their relationship to PA levels in adults and youth. The purpose …

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

Colon cancer risk is reduced by appropriate levels of physical exercise. Light exposure during the night conveys endocrine changes on melatonin rhythm produced by pineal gland. This hormone is considered as a potent anti-oxidant with oncostatic properties. Both factors are related to colon cancer, which risk can be estimated by the evaluation of pre-malignant factors of colonic mucosa such as the Aberrant Crypt Foci (ACF). This study aims to verify whether the beneficial effects of physical exercise are related to the activity of the pineal gland. Thus, 40 rats were divided into 5 groups: G0, G1 and G2 were sedentary, …

Exercise In Colon Cancer Modulation: An Experimental Approach, Marcelo M. P. Demarzo, Sérgio B. Garcia, Sérgio E. A. Perez

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

Carcinogenesis is a complex process best characterized as an accumulation of alterations in genes regulating cellular homeostasis. The whole process can be divided into three main stages: initiation, promotion, and progression. It has been observed that moderate and regular physical activity (PA) may prevent cancer, mainly colon cancer (CC), up to 50% in humans. The evidence that PA protects against colon cancer is convincing. Also, PA probably protects against postmenopausal breast cancer and cancer of the endometrium. On the other hand, exhaustive exercise increases free radical DNA oxidative damage, inflammation and depresses immune function, events also related to the increased …
