Three Newly Recorded Genera And Species Of Gobiid Fishes (Teleostei: Gobiidae) From The Dongsha Atoll (Pratas Islands), South China Sea, Shao-Liang Hsu, Ta-Kang Liu, Kwang-Tsao Shao, Kuan-Te Chen, I-Shiung Chen

Journal of Marine Science and Technology

Three newly recorded gobiid genera of coral-reef gobies have been collected and examined by scuba diving in the Dongsha Atoll, also known as the Pratas Islands, South China Sea. They are Feia Smith, 1959; Sueviota Winterbottom and Hoese, 1988; and Trimmatom Winterbottom and Emery, 1981. These three genera were formerly unrecorded in the Dongsha Atoll and all Taiwanese waters before this paper. One representing species was found for each gobiid genus. The diagnosis for these three newly recorded species and genera will be provided in this paper.

Redescription Of Gobius Gastrospilos Bleeker, 1853 With Comments On Four Newly Recorded Species Of Brackish Gobies From Taiwan, Shih-Pin Huang, Martien J. P. Van Oijen, Kuang-Ying Huang, Chin-Chu Tsai, I-Shiung Chen

Journal of Marine Science and Technology

A re-examination of the holotype of Gobius gastrospilos Bleeker, 1853 confirmed thatthis species belongs to the genus Pseudogobius Popta, 1922. The detailed redescription of Pseudogobius gastrospilos (Bleeker, 1853) would be provided in this paper. Furthermore, a series of field surveys of the gobioid fauna in brackish habitats of Taiwan revealed and summarized the following four newly recorded gobiid species: Pseudogobius gastrospilos (Bleeker, 1853), Mugilogobius chulae (Smith, 1932), Mugilogobius mertoni (Weber, 1911) and Mugilogobius myxodermus (Herre, 1935). The diagnosis of these newly recorded species of Taiwan would be also provided herein.

An Annotated Checklist Of Gobioid Fishes From The Mangrove Estuary Of Matang, Malay Peninsula, With Comments On A New Pseudogobius (Teleostei: Gobiidae) Species, Shih-Pin Huang, Kwang-Tsao Shao, Hao-Ming Huang, Ving-Ching Chong, I-Shiung Chen Dec 2013

An Annotated Checklist Of Gobioid Fishes From The Mangrove Estuary Of Matang, Malay Peninsula, With Comments On A New Pseudogobius (Teleostei: Gobiidae) Species, Shih-Pin Huang, Kwang-Tsao Shao, Hao-Ming Huang, Ving-Ching Chong, I-Shiung Chen

Journal of Marine Science and Technology

A series of field collections of fishes were made in the Matang mangrove, Malay Peninsula in April 2011. At least 23 genera and 27 species of gobioid fishes including a new Pseudogobius species were collected and recorded in this region during the expedition. The checklist of gobioid fauna and available materials are provided herein, and the formal description of a new goby species, Pseudogobius fulvicaudus Huang, Shao & Chen, new species will be provided and discussed in this paper.

Two New Species Of Vanderhorstia Smith, 1949 (Teleostei: Gobiidae) From Ryukyus, Japan, Toshiyuki Suzuki, I-Shiung Chen Dec 2013

Two New Species Of Vanderhorstia Smith, 1949 (Teleostei: Gobiidae) From Ryukyus, Japan, Toshiyuki Suzuki, I-Shiung Chen

Journal of Marine Science and Technology

Two new gobiid species of Vanderhorstia Smith, 1959 which have been recently collected from Japanese waters. Both new species are distributed in marine coral reef habitats off the Ryukyus, Japan. Vanderhorstia cyanolineata sp. nov. can be well distinguished from congeners by the following unique combination of features: (1) fin ray counts: second dorsal fin rays I/12, anal fin rays I/12; pectoral fin rays 18-19; (2) fin shape: low first dorsal fin with about equal 3rd to 5th spinous rays, caudal fin large and middle rays as sword-like projection; (3) scales: LR 50-52; TR 18; and (4) its own specific colouration …

Journal of Marine Science and Technology

A new freshwater goby of Rhinogobius Gill (1859) was collected from the Wangchuang River basin, Hainan Island, southern China. The new species, Rhinogobius sangenloensis, can be well distinguished from other congeners by a combination of the following features: second dorsal-fin rays modally I/8; anal-fin rays I/7-8; pectoral-fin rays modally 17; longitudinal scales 25-27; predorsal scales 9-11; vertebrae 26; body with 3-4 longitudinal, discontinuous orange to brown or brownish black bars and stripes; cheek with 2 grayish black spots in male; pectoral-fin base in male with 2 oblong black bars; caudal fin with an orange mark on lower 1/3 region in …
