Numerical Classification Of Streptomycetes Isolated From Karstic Caves In Turkey, Mustafa Yamaç, Kami̇l Işik, Nevzat Şahi̇n

Turkish Journal of Biology

In the present study, a total of 290 actinomycetes isolates were obtained from 19 karstic caves in Turkey. Out of these, 131 were chosen for numerical classification studies according to their morphology and pigmentation properties. Representative isolates were compared with the reference Streptomyces strains based on their various taxonomic characteristics such as biochemical, physiological, nutritional, and morphological, totalling 134 unit characters. The data were evaluated using simple matching coefficients (S_{SM}), and clustering achieved using the Complete algorithm by X-Taxon and NTSys-pc programs. The test strains were assigned to 9 major (5-11 strains), 18 minor (2-4 strains), and 31 single membered …

Chromosomal Differentiation Between Populations Of Clarias Gariepinus (Burchell, 1822) From The Göksu Delta And Orontes River (Turkey), Arzu Karahan, Serap Ergene Jan 2011

Chromosomal Differentiation Between Populations Of Clarias Gariepinus (Burchell, 1822) From The Göksu Delta And Orontes River (Turkey), Arzu Karahan, Serap Ergene

Turkish Journal of Biology

The karyotype of Clarias gariepinus was described by means of G-banding, C-banding, Q-banding, and Ag-NORs (NORs) staining in this study. Samples were collected from 2 regions of Turkey: the Göksu Delta and Orontes River. Although samples from both regions had the same diploid chromosome number and fundamental arm number, (2n = 56, FN = 100), they had remarkable differences in karyotype formula and distribution of rDNA sites, according to silver nitrate staining and G-banding. While the karyotype formula for Orontes River samples was 24m + 10sm + 10st + 12a, the Göksu Delta samples' was 28m + 6sm + 10st …

C- And Nor Stained Karyotypes Of Mole Rat, Nannospalax Xanthodon (2n = 54) From Kırıkkale, Turkey, Ati̇lla Arslan, Kubi̇lay Toyran, Serdar Gözütok, Tarkan Yorulmaz Jan 2011

C- And Nor Stained Karyotypes Of Mole Rat, Nannospalax Xanthodon (2n = 54) From Kırıkkale, Turkey, Ati̇lla Arslan, Kubi̇lay Toyran, Serdar Gözütok, Tarkan Yorulmaz

Turkish Journal of Biology

In the present study, the 2n = 54 chromosomal race of blind mole rats, Nannospalax xanthodon superspecies, from Kırıkkale Province in Turkey was investigated. Conventional chromosome staining, Ag-NOR (Nucleolus Organizer Region) staining, and C-banding analysis were carried out on specimens of mole rats. The karyotype including 3 metacentric pairs (nos. 1-3), 3 submetacentric pairs (nos. 4-6), 3 subtelocentric pairs (nos. 7-9), and 17 acrocentric pairs (nos. 10-26) of autosomes (NFa = 70). C-heterochromatin regions were found in the centromeric and pericentromeric region and the short arms of some bi-armed autosomal pairs, and C-heterochromatin was localized in pericentromeric areas of a …
