Cytotoxicity And Reproductive Impairment In Rainbow Trout Cell Lines Exposed To Microcystis Aeruginosa Extracellular Metabolites, Keira Harshaw Jan 2023

Cytotoxicity And Reproductive Impairment In Rainbow Trout Cell Lines Exposed To Microcystis Aeruginosa Extracellular Metabolites, Keira Harshaw

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Current trends in cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (cHABs) demonstrate increasing risks to human health and the health of aquatic ecosystems around the globe. Expansion of algal blooms, both geographically and temporally, serve to place increasing numbers of freshwater species, including fish, in peril. Microcystis aeruginosa, one of the most common species of bloom-causing cyanobacteria, is capable of producing a vast diversity of biologically active compounds, however Microcystis studies are often dominated by microcystins. How non-microcystin metabolites contribute to Microcystis toxicity, particularly in freshwater fish, has been the subject of a limited, but growing, body of research. To contribute to …

The Role Of Cort And Anaphase Promoting Complex/Cyclosome (Apc/C) In Drosophila Sex Determination And Meiosis, Abuzar Sikander Malik Jan 2023

The Role Of Cort And Anaphase Promoting Complex/Cyclosome (Apc/C) In Drosophila Sex Determination And Meiosis, Abuzar Sikander Malik

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The E3 ubiquitin ligase, APC/C, is essential for the completion cell cycle; along with its co-activators it allows mitotic exit and maintenance of G1. APC/C marks various substrates with ubiquitin chains; marked substrates are subsequently destroyed via the 26S proteasome pathway. Cort is a Drosophila female meiosis specific activator of APC/C. Cort works within meiosis in conjunction with Fzy to mediate Securin and cyclin destruction. A C-terminal IR-tail motif and a N-terminal C-box support Cort-APC/C interaction, whereas short motifs like D-box and KEN-box on the target protein impart substrate recognition to Cort. Cort expression is tightly controlled in the female …

Regulation Of The Ribosome Biogenesis Factor Hyvh1 By Src-Mediated Phosphorylation, Ashley Anne Dadalt Oct 2021

Regulation Of The Ribosome Biogenesis Factor Hyvh1 By Src-Mediated Phosphorylation, Ashley Anne Dadalt

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) superfamily is a major segment of the signal transduction landscape, responsible for regulating the biomolecular phosphorylation status of the cell. Diverse PTP subclasses exist, some of which are understudied and whose cellular functions are not yet fully elucidated. YVH1, an atypical PTP of the dual-specificity phosphatase (DUSP) subclass, is a pleiotropic enzyme with no known substrate. Human YVH1 (hYVH1) protects cells from cellular stressors, including heat shock and oxidative stress, regulates the cell cycle, disassembles stress granules, and acts as 60S ribosome biogenesis factor. Additionally, heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) has been found to be …
