Thinning Strategies For Aspen [Populus Tremuloides In The Lake States]: A Prediction Model, Donald A. Perala
Aspen Bibliography
Quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx.) occurs extensively in the Lake States, the northeastern United States, and the Rocky Mountains, as well as over most of Canada.
Effect Of Cold Storage On Development Of Suckers On Aspen Root Cuttings, George A. Schier, R.B. Campbell
Effect Of Cold Storage On Development Of Suckers On Aspen Root Cuttings, George A. Schier, R.B. Campbell
Aspen Bibliography
The effect of cold storage on suckering ability of excised roots was determined for 10 aspen clones. Root cuttings were collected in June, August, and October and stored for from 7 to 42 days at 2°C. In addition, cuttings from dormant trees were stored for 175 days to determine if they had cold requirements for suckering. Among clones, there were large differences in capacity to produce root suckers. Cold storage had a small but significant effect on the formation and growth of suckers on root cuttings collected in June and August. As a rule, clones responded similarly to cold storage. …

The Extent And Characteristics Of Low Productivity Aspen Areas In Wisconsin, A.L. Lundgren, J.T. Hahn
The Extent And Characteristics Of Low Productivity Aspen Areas In Wisconsin, A.L. Lundgren, J.T. Hahn
Aspen Bibliography
The aspen type in Wisconsin occupies about 3.7 million acres, 25 percent of the commercial forest land in the State. Aspen is a major pulpwood species in the State and during recent years has provided 40 to 45 percent of the total pulpwood. Because of the wide extent of the aspen type and importance of the timber industry, there is considerable interest in knowing the inherent capabilities of the aspen forest land.
A System For Predicting The Amount Of Phellinus (Fomes) Igniarius Rot In Trembling Aspen Stands, Robert L. Anderson, Arthur L. Schipper, Jr.
A System For Predicting The Amount Of Phellinus (Fomes) Igniarius Rot In Trembling Aspen Stands, Robert L. Anderson, Arthur L. Schipper, Jr.
Aspen Bibliography
The occurrence of Phellinus (Fomes) igniarius white trunk rot in 45- to 50-year-old trembling aspen stands can be predicted by applying a constant to the stand basal area with P. igniarius rot. Future decay projections can be made by reapplying the basal area of hidden delay for each 6 years projected. This paper describes the methods used to determine the constant and how to use it in the field.
