Application of wastewater to the land has been designated a viable alternative for wastewater treatment by the Water Pollution Act Amendments of 1972 (PL 92-500). However, very little information is available concerning the long-term effects of applying wastewater to the land. The general objective of this study was to determine the long-term effects of employing secondary treated municipal wastewater as irrigation water. The study compared the quality of soils, crops, groundwater, and applied water to a site receiving normal irrigation water (control site) to a site (treated site) which had utilized seondary treated municipal effluent for irrigation water during a …

Uneven-Aged Forest Management: State Of The Art (Or Science?)
Uneven-Aged Forest Management: State Of The Art (Or Science?)
Forestry
Examines some important historical factors that have caused widespread preference of the even-aged management system over the uneven-aged. Major decisions facing forest managers interested in applying uneven-aged management are defined, and a review is made of techniques traditionally used, or recently proposed, for use in making these decisions. Finally, problem areas needing further research and development are identified.

Aspen Bibliography
Grazing impact by elk and moose has been a point of concern in Jackson Hole for many years. Concern has been primarily directed towards sparsely vegetated south aspects, aspen stands, and willow bottoms. Numerous transects have quantified heavy foliage utilization. Trend studies have been mostly inconclusive. Study of historical narratives have quantified heavy forage utilization. Trend studies have been mostly inconclusive. Study of historical narratives, early photographs and consideration of plant physiology, soils data, and fire ecology have aided interpretations of vegetal trend and plant succession in recent years. Photographs show little change on sparsely vegetated sites. Soils information on …

Comparison Of Tolerance To High Moisture Conditions Of The Soil Among Crop Plants: Studies On The Comparative Plant Nutrition [English Translation], Toshiaki Tadano, Kiyokazu Kirimoto, Isao Aoyama, Arika Tanaka
Publications
Tolerance to high moisture conditions in the soil was compared for eighteen crop species, and factors causing differences among species were studied: 1) When the moisture content of a soil was kept high, the soil air contained 10.5 - 17.5% of O2 and 5.0 - 9.8% of CO2, and the soil solution was not very high in Fe, Mn or NO2-N. 2) Cruciferae, Solanaceae, sugar beet, field bean, pea, cucumber and Chrysanthemum coronarium were very susceptible to this condition, but maize, soybean, and onion were tolerant. Rice grew better under this condition than under ordinary upland conditions. 3) Tolerance to …
