Description Of A New Species Of Aleuroparadoxus Quaintance And Baker (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) From Guatemala, José Francisco García Ochaeta, Anil Kumar Dubey

Insecta Mundi

Puparia of a new whitefly, Aleuroparadoxus marisae García-Ochaeta and Dubey, new species (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), collected on leaves of Brosimum alicastrum Sw. in Santa Ana, Petén, Guatemala, and on Pimenta dioica (L). Merr. in Calzada Mopán, Dolores, Petén are described and illustrated. Drawings of morphological structures and differential diagnosis of the puparium are provided, and differences from congeners are discussed. A key to puparia of the Aleuroparadoxus Quaintance and Baker species is included.

Taxonomic Review Of The North American Dung Beetle Genus Boreocanthon Halffter, 1958 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae: Deltochilini), W. D. Edmonds

Insecta Mundi

This paper presents a taxonomic review of the genus Boreocanthon Halffter, restored generic status, a group of ball-rolling (telocoprid) dung beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae) endemic to North America. The genus, heretofore treated as a subgenus of Canthon, comprises 13 species, each keyed, diagnosed, illustrated and presented with information on distribution, relationships, and biology (*signifies restored generic combination): *Boreocanthon ateuchiceps (Bates, 1887); B. coahuilensis (Howden, 1966); *B. depressipennis (LeConte, 1859c); *B. ebenus (Say, 1823); *B. forreri (Bates, 1887); *B. integricollis (Schaeffer, 1915); *B. lecontei (Harold, 1868); …

A New Species Of Celastrina From The Northwestern United States And Southwestern Canada With A Lectotype Designation Of Lycaena Pseudargiolus Var. Nigrescens Fletcher (Lycaenidae: Polyommatinae), Caitlin C. Labar, Jonathan P. Pelham, Norbert G. Kondla Apr 2022

Kondla

The Taxonomic Report of the International Lepidoptera Survey

A new western azure species, Celastrina asheri, is described from the northwestern United States and southwestern Canada. A lectotype is designated for Lycaena pseudargiolus var. nigrescens Fletcher, 1903 to secure the identity of that name. C. asheri broadly overlaps with the northeastern range of C. echo (W. H. Edwards, 1864) but is usually very distinct from that species. C. lucia (W. Kirby, 1837) is narrowly sympatric with C. asheri in British Columbia, the southwest corner of Alberta and along the Rocky Mountains in Montana. As far as is known, C. asheri uses only red osier dogwood (Cornus sericea …

Revision Of The Checkered Beetle Genus Onychotillus Chapin (Coleoptera: Cleridae: Tillinae), Weston Opitz

Insecta Mundi

The West Indian genus Onychotillus Chapin (Coleoptera: Cleridae: Tillinae) is revised and includes O. androwi Opitz, new species, O. apiculus Opitz, new species, O. cinctipennis (Chevrolat,1874), O. cubana de Zayas,1988, O. dimidiatus de Zayas,1988, O. lineatus Opitz, new species, O. minutus de Zayas,1988, O. trinitatis de Zayas,1988, O. woodruffi Opitz, new species, and O. vittatus Chapin,1945.

Robert E. Woodruff was a consummate collector of insects, gems, and items of art. He was a superb taxonomist with a specialty in the beetle family Scarabaeidae. This contribution is dedicated …

Dichotomius Woodruffi, A New Dichotomius Species Of The Agenor Group From Costa Rica And Nicaragua (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae), Ángel Solis, Burt Kohlmann Feb 2022

Dichotomius Woodruffi, A New Dichotomius Species Of The Agenor Group From Costa Rica And Nicaragua (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae), Ángel Solis, Burt Kohlmann

Insecta Mundi

We describe a new species of Dichotomius Hope, 1838, from the D. agenor species-group from Costa Rica and Nicaragua: D. woodruffi Solís and Kohlmann, new species (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae). Based on this discovery, we confirm that Dichotomius enioi Montoya-Molina and Vaz-de-Mello, 2021 and D. agenor (Harold, 1869) are not currently distributed in Costa Rica. Instead, the only species of Dichotomius that are currently distributed in Costa Rica from the D. agenor species-group are D. centralis (Harold, 1869) and D. woodruffi. We discuss the distribution of the Dichotomius agenor species-group in Central America.

Diversity And Phylogenetic Relationships Of ‘Tetraphyllidean’ Clade 3 (Cestoda) Based On New Material From Orectolobiform Sharks In Australia And Taiwan, Janine N. Caira, Kirsten Jensen Jan 2022

Diversity And Phylogenetic Relationships Of ‘Tetraphyllidean’ Clade 3 (Cestoda) Based On New Material From Orectolobiform Sharks In Australia And Taiwan, Janine N. Caira, Kirsten Jensen

Harold W. Manter Laboratory: Library Materials

In an effort to expand knowledge of Clade 3—one of the ten clades that compose the non-monophyletic order ‘Tetraphyllidea’ all current members of which parasitise orectolobiform sharks—we targeted species of orectolobiform sharks that had not previously been examined for ‘tetraphyllidean’ cestodes. That work led to the discovery of three new species off Australia and Taiwan. Ambitalveolus gen. n. was erected to accommodate these species. Ambitalveolus costelloae gen. n. et sp. n., Ambitalveolus kempi sp. n., and Ambitalveolus penghuensis sp. n. differ from one another in scolex size, genital pore position, and number of marginal loculi, proglottids, and testes. Among ‘tetraphyllideans’, …
