Swine Erysipelas Infection In Man, L. Van Es
Historical Research Bulletins of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station
The preceding decade witnessed the introduction and spread within this state of a hitherto uncommon disease of swine. This disorder, swine erysipelas, has gradually become disseminated throughout Nebraska's swine population until it has developed into a major problem of preventive veterinary medicine. Its appearance, furthermore, added another to our list of animal maladies which are communicable to man. The latter consideration may serve as warrant to review what is known about the part played by swine erysipelas as a human disease, to describe its more salient features and to examine them from epidemiological, clinical, pathological and prophylactic viewpoints.

Interest in the principles of alfalfa breeding has increased greatly with the growing "forage consciousness" of the country at large and the more specific interest developed through cooperation in the Alfalfa Improvement Conference. As is true of many other forage crops, information on the breeding behavior of alfalfa is meager. The present study was undertaken to add appreciably to the data available on the metabolism of calcium, phosphorus, iron, copper, and nitrogen of young women on their customary self-chosen diets. It was planned to use the figures for the retentions or losses of these dietary essentials which occurred at various levels of intake to determine the requirement of the subjects and to evaluate the adequacy of present adult dietary standards for young women.
