Fungal Dna Barcode (Its Nrdna) Reveals More Diversity Than Expected In Tulostoma From Macedonia, Katerina Rusevska, Franciso De Diego Calonge, Mitko Karadelev, María Paz Martín

Turkish Journal of Botany

With the aim of clarifying the number of Tulostoma species in Macedonia, and to verify some previous collections, molecular analyses were carried out on four morphologically identified species collected in different habitats (at the edges of oak or juniper forests, pine plantations, meadows, rocky places, roadsides). Sixty-two new sequences were generated and compared with recently published sequences included in public databases. According to the barcoding sequences fourteen Tulostoma species are identified in Macedonia and ten of them were assigned to known species: Tulostoma brumale , T. fimbriatum/, T. lusitanicum, T. cf. moravecii, T. melanocyclum, T. punctatum, T. simulans, T. squamosum, …

Fruit And Seed Macro- And Micromorphologies Of The Genus Matthiola (Brassicaceae) In Turkey And Their Taxonomic Value, Ayla Kaya, Murat Ünal, Abdurrahman Sefali, Esra Marti̇n Jan 2019

Fruit And Seed Macro- And Micromorphologies Of The Genus Matthiola (Brassicaceae) In Turkey And Their Taxonomic Value, Ayla Kaya, Murat Ünal, Abdurrahman Sefali, Esra Marti̇n

Turkish Journal of Botany

Macro- and micromorphological features of fruit and seeds belonging to 12 taxa genera of Matthiola W.T.Aiton were studied via stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope. In macromorphological studies, the following variables were investigated: the shape, size, and color of fruit and seeds; the length of fruiting pedicel; the structure of the median vein; stigma (horns); and trichome properties and density in fruit. In micromorphological studies, the presence or absence of seed wings, seed coat pattern in disc and wing, and epidermal cell shape in disc and wing were determined. According to our findings, all characters of fruit and seeds are extremely …

Nutlet Structures Of Subsection Fragiles Of The Genus Stachys (Lamiaceae) From Turkey And Their Systematic Applications, Mehmet Cengi̇z Karai̇smai̇loğlu, Özal Güner

Turkish Journal of Botany

This paper includes the morphological and anatomical characters of the nutlets of 7 endemic species of the subsection Fragiles of the genus Stachys (Lamiaceae) from Turkey and the systematic significance of these characteristics, using one-way analysis of variance and cluster and principal component analyses. Morphological characters such as the dimensions, shapes, colors, and surfaces of the nutlets were studied using light and scanning electron microscopes. The structures and thicknesses of the pericarp and endosperm layers, as well as the sizes of the cotyledon in the nutlets, were anatomically studied. The outcomes revealed that the taxa varyfrom each other in terms …

Phylogenetic Placement, Floral Anatomy, And Morphological Characterization Of The North African Pastoral Halophyte Atriplex Mollis Desf. (Amaranthaceae), Abderrazak Tlili, Imed Sbissi, Faycal Boughalleb, Hassen Gouja, Teresa Garnatje, Joan Vallès, Mohamed Neffati Jan 2019

Phylogenetic Placement, Floral Anatomy, And Morphological Characterization Of The North African Pastoral Halophyte Atriplex Mollis Desf. (Amaranthaceae), Abderrazak Tlili, Imed Sbissi, Faycal Boughalleb, Hassen Gouja, Teresa Garnatje, Joan Vallès, Mohamed Neffati

Turkish Journal of Botany

Atriplex mollis Desf. (Amaranthaceae), a North African endemic halophytic species, is further described in this study. Phylogenetic analysis based on a combined dataset of ITS and ETS rDNA and atpB-rbcL and trnK cpDNA showed that A. mollis is closely related to the Malta- and Gozo-endemic Cremnophyton lanfrancoi Brullo & Pavone. Given this close phylogenetic relationship, A. mollis is also considered among the oldest species of Atriplex, together with C. lanfrancoi. Molecular data also suggest that A. mollis in North Africa, C. lanfrancoi on Malta Island, and Atriplex cana Ledeb.in Eurasian semideserts constitute a separate clade within the tribe Atripliceae. As …

A Blue Crab (Callinectes Sapidus Rathbun, 1896) Individual With Two Carapace Widths: A Case Report, Akin Türker İlkyaz, Zafer Tosunoğlu

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, findings of morphological deformation observed on a blue crab sampled in Köyceğiz Lagoon (Muğla, Turkey) are presented. The deformation is in the left lateral spine. It has been observed that this spine, which normally should have been one, developed as two independent spines. Due to this abnormality observed in the individual, the individual has two carapace widths.
