Phylogenetic Relationships Of Native Turkish Cattle Breeds Using Microsatellite Markers, Yusuf Özşensoy, Ercan Kurar, Müge Doğan, Zafer Bulut, Mehmet Ni̇zamlioğlu, Ayşe Işik, Aysun Çamlidağ, Vahdetti̇n Altunok

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

A total of 20 microsatellite DNA markers were used for genetic characterization and determination of phylogenetic relationships of native cattle breeds of Turkey, including the Anatolian Grey (AG), Anatolian Black (AB), South Anatolian Red (SAR), East Anatolian Red (EAR), Southern Anatolian Yellow (SAY), and Zavot (ZAV). DNA samples were isolated from 271 blood samples using an organic method. Amplified polymerase chain reaction products were separated by capillary electrophoresis and genotypes were determined for 20 microsatellites. A total of 269 different alleles were determined. The lowest (7.80) and highest (10.80) mean allele numbers were observed for the ZAV and SAY populations, …

Genetic Diversity And Agronomic Performance Of Slovenian Landraces Of Proso Millet (Panicum Miliaceum L.), Marko Flajsman, Natasa Stajner, Darja Kocjan Acko Jan 2019

Genetic Diversity And Agronomic Performance Of Slovenian Landraces Of Proso Millet (Panicum Miliaceum L.), Marko Flajsman, Natasa Stajner, Darja Kocjan Acko

Turkish Journal of Botany

Proso millet (Panicum miliaceum L.) has many favored nutritional and agronomic traits, which makes it appropriate for cultivation and consumption all around the world. Genomic resources for proso millet are still very limited but the set of genomic data is improving. In this study, we genotyped six Slovenian landraces of proso millet (P. miliaceum L.) along with one Slovene autochthonous cultivar, Son?ek. The chosen set of 11 SSR markers showed that there is low overall heterozygosity (0.561) among Slovenian landraces of proso millet. However, we were able to determine distinct groups on the dendrogram for different landraces and the cultivar …

Genetic Structure And Diversity Of Adonis L. (Ranunculaceae) Populations Collected From Turkey By Inter-Primer Binding Site (Ipbs) Retrotransposon Markers, Arash Hossein Pour, Faruk Karahan, Emre İlhan, Ahmet İlçi̇m, Kami̇l Hali̇loğlu Jan 2019

Genetic Structure And Diversity Of Adonis L. (Ranunculaceae) Populations Collected From Turkey By Inter-Primer Binding Site (Ipbs) Retrotransposon Markers, Arash Hossein Pour, Faruk Karahan, Emre İlhan, Ahmet İlçi̇m, Kami̇l Hali̇loğlu

Turkish Journal of Botany

The genus Adonis L. is a member of Ranunculaceae and consists of perennial and annual herbaceous plants included in the tribe Adonideae under the subfamily Ranunculoideae. Botanically, Ranunculaceae comprises vital medicinal plants. Molecular markers are one of the most effective tools for exploring genetic variation that can enhance breeding efficiency. To identify the genetic diversity of 62 Adonis ecotypes collected from different regions in Turkey, the interprimer binding site (iPBS) retrotransposon system was used. Of the 83 iPBS primers used, 10 provided sufficient polymorphic data, generating a total of 204 alleles. The number of iPBS bands per individual was 3.29, …

Genetic Characterization Of Field Populations Of Culex Pipiens Linnaeus, 1758 (Diptera: Culicidae) Sampled From The Aegean Region Of Turkey, Sercan Kiliç, Vatan Taşkin, Taylan Doğaroğlu, Ersi̇n Doğaç, Belgi̇n Göçmen Taşkin

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Mosquitoes are one of the organisms subjected to frequent insecticide application due to their status as vectors that carry a wide range of life-threatening diseases. Turkey has climatic and other ecological features required for the breeding and living of 50 species from 8 genera. The members of the Culex pipiens complex are the dominant mosquitoes among them. In order to design more sustainable insecticide resistance management strategies, it is important to investigate the genetic structure of mosquito populations using molecular techniques. The aim of this study was the genetic characterization of field populations of C. pipiens sampled from 25 different …
