Preliminary Phylogeny Of The Thrips Parasitoids Of Turkey Based On Some Morphological Scales And 28s D2 Rdna, With Description Of A New Species, Oguzhan Doğanlar, Mi̇kdat Doğanlar, Anne Frary

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Species of the Ceranisus thrips-attacking genus are difficult to distinguish morphologically. The phylogenetic relationships within the Ceranisus species were explored using nucleotide sequences of the 28S D2 expansion region of the rDNA gene. Bayesian, maximum likelihood, and parsimony inference methods were employed to construct the phylogenetic relationships. Principal component analysis on the Turkish species of Ceranisus, namely antalyacus, menes, bozovaensis, hirsutus, planitianus (a new record for Turkey), pacuvius, and a new species, provided supporting evidence. All known data concerning hosts and geographical distribution are presented. A new species, C. onuri O. Doganlar, sp.n., was described from Turkey.

Developing successful strategies to ensure future increase in yield of soybean and peanut crops hinges in part, on improving the genetic basis of the cultivars. Knowledge of genetic relationships in crop breeding programs provides valuable information that can be used by plant breeders as a parental line selection tool. So far, a thorough analysis of genetic diversity among the soybean and peanut genotypes grown in Turkey had not been attempted at DNA level. In this study, inter-simple sequence repeats (ISSR) and sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers were used to evaluate the genetic diversity between 21 soybean and 32 peanut cultivars …

Re-Evaluated Conservation Status Of Salvia (Sage) In Turkey I: The Mediterranean And The Aegean Geographic Regions, Ferhat Celep, Musa Doğan, Ahmet Kahraman

Turkish Journal of Botany

The precise evaluation of the conservation status of endemic and rare species is necessary in order to prevent their extinction. According to our current taxonomic revision of Turkish Salvia L., the Mediterranean and Aegean geographic regions of Turkey have 60 taxa, 32 of which are endemic (mainly local endemics), 5 of which are non-endemic rare, and the remaining 23 taxa are widely distributed. The rate of endemism is 53% in the area. The destruction of habitat through human encroachment such as urbanisation, land clearing, overgrazing, pollution, and road and dam constructions is the principal threat in the study area. Based …
