The Effect Of 4-Chloroindole-3-Acetic Acid On Some Growth Parameters In Mung Bean Under Cadmium Stress, Mohammad Mazid, Barket Ali, Shamsul Hayat, Aqil Ahmad

Seedlings of mung bean (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek) cv. T-44 grown on a sand culture were exposed to cadmium (Cd) (100 µM) on day 10 of growth. These seedlings were subsequently sprayed with deionized water (control) or 4-chloroindole-3-acetic acid (4-Cl-IAA) (10^{-6} M) on day 15 and were sampled 30 days after sowing to assess growth and metabolite content. The Genotoxic Potential Of Two Heavy Metals In Inbred Lines Of Maize (Zea Mays L.), Girjesh Kumar, Prashant Kumar Rai

The genotoxic effects of 2 heavy metals (mercury chloride and cadmium chloride) on the gametic cells of 6 inbred lines of maize were tested in terms of cytological abnormalities. Meiosis was normal under control conditions. During the treatments with mercury and cadmium there was a concentration-dependent increase in meiotic abnormalities in all the inbred lines. A wide spectrum of chromosomal aberrations in the treated sets was stickiness, followed by laggards, bridges, scattering, precocious movement, fragments, etc. Maximum chromosomal anomalies were observed in inbred line CM-142 in both the treatment sets of heavy metals. The effects of cadmium (Cd) on antioxidant responses and sister chromatid exchanges (SCE) were studied in Vicia faba L. The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and glutathione reductase (GR), and the levels of ascorbate (ASC), glutathione (GSH), hydrogen peroxide, and malondialdehyde (MDA, indicator of lipid peroxidation) were measured. Genotoxicity was evaluated by measuring the changes in the mitotic index (MI) and sister chromatid exchanges (SCE).
