The Effect Of Fertilizer Applications On The Quality And The Quantity Of The Oil In Flaxseed, Clarence O. Stockland
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A considerable number of economic seeds are characterized by the presence of oil instead of starch as reserved material. The flax plant produces an oil-bearing seed which yields either by pressure or by extraction an oil which is used chiefly in the manufacture of paints and varnishes, and in the manufacture of linoleum, oil cloth, printer's ink, and patent leather. The oil obtained from flexseed is known as linseed oil and is one of a class of fatty oils known as drying oil. When exposed to the air the oil absorbs oxygen, forming a compound known ad linoxyn which constitutes …

A Study Of The Sculpture Of The Chorion Of The Eggs Of Eighteen South Dakota Grasshoppers (Acridiidae), Raymond Cecil Bushland
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The most destructive grasshoppers that occur in South Dakota are those belonging to the genus Melanoplus. Of those, the common and harmful species are Melanoplus bivittatus (Say) and Melanoplus differentialis (Thomas). Other species that are of considerable economic importance, and, at times, fully as important as the two species mentioned, are Melanoplus femur-rubrum (Deg.) and Melanoplus mexicanus (Sauss.). Before attempting to work out a plan for grasshopper control, it is desirable at times to know what species are to be encountered. The control may vary to some extent for the different species. It has been found that Melanoplus differentialis hatches …

An Analysis Of The Bank Credit Situation In South Dakota, Roy James Smith
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study was planned as a preliminary survey of the short time credit problems of South Dakota. Although considerable information had been gathered concerning long time credits, no investigation had been made in the short time credit field; consequently the study of short time credits was regarded merely as an extension of the previous field of study. An investigation in this field was expected to be valuable since the efficient operation of the farming business depends in many instances on ready access to a cheap supply of short time credit.
Reaction To Price Change By South Dakota Farmers, John Gordon Mcneely
Reaction To Price Change By South Dakota Farmers, John Gordon Mcneely
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
South Dakota is one of the newest of the important agricultural states. In 1900, many parts of South Dakota were still in the process of being settled. The increase in the amount of land in crops continued without interruption until the time of the World War. We then find a greater demand for farm products than ever before. Inspired by the double incentive of high prices and helping to win the war, South Dakota and United States agriculture had expanded to unprecedented levels by 1920.
