Downy mildew caused by Hyaloperonospora parasitica on different members of Brassicaceae has been reported from different parts of the world. In India, the pathogen is recorded for the first time on Lepidium sativum. Proper management strategies need to be formulated against this disease as incidence is increasing.

Bacteriocins are a large and functionally diverse family of toxins found in all major lineages of Bacteria. Colicins, those bacteriocins produced by Escherichia coli, serve as a model system for investigations of bacteriocin structure–function relationships, genetic organization, and their ecological role and evolutionary history. Colicin expression is often dependent on host regulatory pathways (such as the SOS system), is usually confined to times of stress, and results in death of the producing cells. In the way to determine, the effect of inoculation rate of traditional starter on sorghum beer quality, fermentations were initiated with different inoculation rates [0% (control), 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2% (w vG1)] at 35°C. Then fermentation parameters such as utilization of sugars and production of CO , alcohol, organic acids and 2 yeast biomass were assayed during the process. At the beginning of the fermentation, sugar consumption rate increased with inoculation rate. Steadily increasing resistance among Shigella to beta-lactams, aminoglycosides, and tetracycline has compromised the utility of these commonly used antimicrobial agents. Also, undesirable side effects of certain antibiotics have triggered immense interest in search of alternative therapies using medicinal plants. One such medicinal plant used since ancient times to cure diarrhea is Aegle marmelos. The present study exemplifies the susceptibility of beta-lactam-resistant Shigella dysenteriae and Shigella flexneri toward beta-lactam antibiotics, when grown in the presence of aqueous extract of A. marmelos (AEAM), by altering porin channels. A kinetic model is presented giving a mathematical description of batch culture of Pseudomonas putida PGA1 grown using saponified palm kernel oil as carbon source and ammonium as the limiting nutrient. The growth of the micro-organism is well-described using. Tessier-type model which takes into account the inhibitory effect of ammonium at high concentrations. The ammonium consumption rate by the cells is related ill proportion to the rate of growth.
