Management Options For Pilbara Demersal Line Fishing, Gaye Looby

Fisheries management papers

Fisheries Western Australia licensing arrangements allow all vessels with an unrestircted fishing boat licence ('wetline licence') to take scalefish throughout the State. In Australia, generally grain legumes are referred to as pulses. The term pulse is derived from the Latin puls meaning that the seed or grain can be made into a thick soup or pottage. The term pulse is most commonly associated with the food legumes whereas grain legumes are mostly associated with the feed industry. The terms are interchangeable, but with few exceptions (notably chickpeas, lentils and mung beans), the majority of …

Phosphorus And Nitrate Loss From Horticulture On The Swan Coastal Plain, Neil Clifton Lantzke

Agriculture reports

(En) The extent of nutrient loss from nine horticultural properties located on the sandy soils of the Swan Coastal Plain was examined. On three of the properties phosphorus (P) loss was measured by monitoring nutrient loads in shallow drains. On the other six properties networks of monitoring bores were installed and both P and nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N) concentrations were monitored. All of the properties except one were located on the low phosphate fixing Bassendean sands. The level of nutrient loss was depend l production areas. High to very high N03-N concentrations were found in the shallow groundwater beneath the production …

The Aquaculture Of Non-Endemic Species In Western Australia, Tina Thorne Jun 1997

The Aquaculture Of Non-Endemic Species In Western Australia, Tina Thorne

Fisheries management papers

This Management Paper has been drafted in liaison with the Department of Environmental Protection in accordance with the principles of risk assessment and taking into account translocation issues of non-endemic species such as redclaw (Cheras quadricarninatus). It is considered that the implementation of this policy will protect the natural environment and native crayfish species. It will also allow for the development of a redclaw industry, and provide the first step towards self regulation of that industry.

The Aquaculture Of Non-Endemic Species In Western Australia Silver Perch (Bidyanus Bidyanus), Tina Thorne, H. G. Brayford

Fisheries management papers

For a number of years silver perch, a species native to the Murray-Darling river system of eastern Australia, has been allowed into Western Australia for the purpose of stocking rural, inland farm dams. Improts have only been allowed under licence, subject to disease-free certification and on the basis of fish being placed into impounded waters. The development of commercial aquaculture of a non-endemic species such as silver perch raises a number of important issues relating to tanslocation. These include potential of the introduced species to: Impact on genetic diversity, Introduce disease, Impact on the natural environment and the biodiversity of …

Native Vegetation On Farms Survey 1996 : A Survey Of Farmers Attitudes To Native Vegetation And Landcare In The Wheatbelt Of Western Australia, Suzanne Jenkins

Resource management technical reports

The Native Vegetation on Farms survey 1996 was performed to assess the attitudes of farmers to a number of issues related to existing native vegetation on farmland, the replanting of vegetation on farms and land degradation. Research has shown that it is important for a proportion of all farmland to have some native vegetation for ecological stability, to regulate hydrological processes and for long-term sustainability of farm production.
