The "Soil Show" Final Report, B E. Bessen Nov 1988

The "Soil Show" Final Report, B E. Bessen

Soil conservation survey collection

This project began with a requirement to produce a poster display for the Soil Conservation Districts Regional Workshops, in July 1988. A multi-dimensional display was produced at each of three workshops, accompanied by extensive publicity cover. As a result of the success of the displays, it was decided to maximise the exposure possible and tackle the Agricultural Show circuit. The Soil Show then travelled 7900 km, taking in 12 venues involving 16 days of public exposure in 10 weeks. It attracted up to 340 people per hour and won a number of awards. However, the major achievements were the significant …

The Offshore Constitutional Settlement Western Australia 1988, Fisheries Department Of Western Australia Jul 1988

The Offshore Constitutional Settlement Western Australia 1988, Fisheries Department Of Western Australia

Fisheries management papers

In June 1987 under the Offshore Constitution Settlement (OCS), the Australian and West Australian State Governments completed the first stage of rationalising jurisdiction over a number of fisheries operating off the West Australian coast. Arrangements under the OCS for West Australian fisheries fall into three catagories: 1. fisheries managed by the State under State law as far seaward as the arrangement specifies. 2. fisheries managed by the West Australian Fisheries Joint Management Authority under State laws in waters were the arrangement applies. 3. fisheries managed by the Commonwealth under Commonwealth law in waters where the arrangement applies. Eleven of the …

The Role Of Building Surveyors In Rural Land Use Planning, Roni Oma Jul 1988

The Role Of Building Surveyors In Rural Land Use Planning, Roni Oma

Soil conservation survey collection

The State Planning Commission has prepared a draft "Rural Land Use Planning Policy" which aims to provide an effective framework for planning in rural areas. The Policy proposes that local authorities currently experiencing land use conflicts or pressure for development and subdivision, prepare a Local Rural Strategy prior to the Commission considering any major development proposals.

Draft Management Plan For The Control Of Barramundi Gillnet Fishing In The Kimberley., R. S. Brown Jun 1988

Draft Management Plan For The Control Of Barramundi Gillnet Fishing In The Kimberley., R. S. Brown

Fisheries management papers

This management plan sets out a number of options for the control of commercial gillnet fishing for barramundi in the Kimberley. the plan focuses on existing commercial fishery, and on the fishermen consulted during the process of developing these management arrangements. However, the barramundi stocks of the region are increasingly exploited by large numbers of both local and tourist recreational fishermen whose needs must also be catered for. Because recreational fishermen are not easily identified or contacted as a group, I have endeavoured in this foreword, to set out the management options which best take into account the future needs …

Economics And Marketing Of Western Australia Pilchards., Scp Fisheries Consultants Pty Ltd Jun 1988

Economics And Marketing Of Western Australia Pilchards., Scp Fisheries Consultants Pty Ltd

Fisheries management papers

The 1986/87 Australian catch was about 8,300 tonnes. At present levels of fishing,it has been suggested that this could be substantially increased. The fishery is not in danger of over-exploitation. Rather, the problem could be that there is more fish available than existing markets could absorb. However, there are prospects for increasing the present volume of fish sold domestically and for developing new products and markets in Australia and overseas.

Draft Management Plan For The Perth Metropolitan Purse Seine Fishery, P. Millington Mar 1988

Draft Management Plan For The Perth Metropolitan Purse Seine Fishery, P. Millington

Fisheries management papers

As part of a development strategy for inshore purse seine fishing along the Western Australian coast this plan proposes management measures for the purse seine fishing boats operating along the coast near the greater Perth Metropolitan area. Using as a basis the restricted entry Cockburn sound purse seine fishery, the plan proposes the introduction of a limited entry regime for inshore purse seine fishing between Lancelin to just south of Mandurah. This regime will permit management of the available pelagic fish stocks in the area and also protect the economic position of the existing participants by providing an environment for …

Seed Production And Hard Seededness Of Trifolium Subterraneum Subsp Brachycalycinum, Michael D A Bolland

Technical Bulletins

Ungrazed swards of some subsp. brachycalycinum strains produced reasonable seed yields compared with subsp. subterraneum on the sandplain soils and annual Medicago species on the alkaline mallee soils. However, in swards which were grazed by sheep up to the start of flowering, subsp. brachycalycinum produced disappointing seed yields compared with subsp. subterraneum and annual Medicago species. On a sandy soil, prevention of burr burial compared with covering developing burrs with sand drastically reduce ation an inhibiting light factor operates to drastically reduce seed production.

Santiago Extends The Range Of Burr Medics, Clinton K. Revell, Michael Ewing

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

The release of Santiago follows an extensive Department of Agriculture testing programme conducted primarily in the 325 to 425 mm rainfall zone. Santiago substantially outperformed both Serena and Circle Valley and was the best amongst the large number of non-commercial medic varieties tested. About 500J000 ha were sown to burr medic between 1983 and 1988 and the Department of Agriculture expects that the release of Santiago will result in additional new plantings from

The programme is a collaborative one with the University of Western Australia and consists of two phases (i) early generation selection, which involves selecting varieties satisfying primary selection criteria; and (ii) field evaluation of advanced lines, which is conducted by the Departments of Agriculture in each State and co-ordinated by the Plant Breeder. The first phase is conducted …

Sport Fishing For Marron In Western Australia - Management For The Future : A Discussion Paper On Management Options For The Marron Fishery., Fisheries Department Of Western Australia. Jan 1988

Sport Fishing For Marron In Western Australia - Management For The Future : A Discussion Paper On Management Options For The Marron Fishery., Fisheries Department Of Western Australia.

Fisheries management papers

The number of marron that may be caught each year without seriously jeopardising the long term future of fishery is limited. The situation deteriorated still further after another winter of low rainfall in 1987 and as the 1987-88 summer drew closer it became doubtful whether the State's marron stocks could withstand another season of hard fishing pressure. Thus, it was considered necessary to ban all fishing for marron during the 1987-88 season. This discussion paper has been prepared to help start the ball rolling in the right direction, and ensure any measures taken to safeguard the fishery are backed up …

The plots were hand sown at 2 g/m2 of inoculated and lime pelleted seed. The medics were inoculated with WSM540 which may have been ineffective on some of the M. littoralis and M. tornata varieties. The time taken to form ripe pods was monitored to gain some extra measure of maturity besides flowering time for comparing wide ranges of species. The ripening time involved was very similar over all the varieties, averaging out to 44 days after the flower opens. What appears to be a more important factor when considering maturity is the …
