Genetically Modified Canola Trials In 2009, Department Of Agriculture And Food, Western Australia
Genetically Modified Canola Trials In 2009, Department Of Agriculture And Food, Western Australia
Research Reports
During 2009, just over 860 hectares of Roundup Ready® canola were grown in Western Australia enabled by an exemption order under the Genetically Modified Crops Free Areas Act 2003. The aim of the trials was to establish whether GM canola could be segregated from non-GM canola along the WA supply chain, and whether GM canola was agronomically viable for WA farming systems. This was the first time genetically modified canola had been grown on a commercial scale in WA - earlier exemptions for smaller trials had been for variety testing and scientific purposes.

Agriculture reports
This workshop grew out of a conversation between Maurice Barnes, a Trayning farmer and member of the Research Advisory Committee of the Dryland Research Institute, and Steve Porritt, the officer in charge of the Dryland Research Institute at Merredin. Maurice was interested in the idea of posing the question 'What would agriculture be like if we had known as much about this landscape in 1829 as we know now?', to a group of farmers and others interested in the central wheatbelt and its future. Maurice saw this question as a first step toward achieving some shared vision for the future …

Factors Affecting Frost Damage To Wheat In Western Australia, S P. Loss
Division of Plant Research : Technical Report Series
It may at first seem strange that precious research funds are being channelled into a project concerned with frost damage in a country where high temperatures and moisture stress limit the growth of plants for a large portion of the year. But cereal crops are only grown in the temperate zones of the continent during winter and spring when they may be exposed to low diurnal temperatures. In many areas cold damage is irregular and rare, however it limits yields not only by causing actual damage but also by restricting the most effective period for flowering. For muck of the Australian …
