Lifestyle Changes Can Reduce The Risk Of Cancer, Anubhab Biswas
American Journal of Applied Bio-Technology Research (AJABTR)
Cancer is a disease that affects millions of people globally, and its impact on individuals, families, and communities is significant. The relentless prevalence of cancer casts a shadow over public health, demanding our attention and action. While some risk factors are beyond our control, such as genetics and environmental exposure, lifestyle choices offer a crucial avenue for combating this formidable foe. By making informed decisions about our daily habits and behaviors, we can proactively reduce the risk of developing cancer. In this essay, we will examine some of the ways in which people can change their lifestyles to lower the …
Diversity And Lifestyle In The Rotifera, Patrick D. Brown
Diversity And Lifestyle In The Rotifera, Patrick D. Brown
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Broad questions regarding community assembly and lifestyle evolution remain unanswered. To answer these questions I used rotifers, common primary consumers present in inland waters. Rotiferan presence in nearly all freshwaters makes them an ideal study system to address questions of metacommunity ecology. Additionally, rotifers possess diverse lifestyles, including sessile, swimming, colonial and solitary forms, allowing them to be used as models of lifestyle evolution. In Chapter 1, I address metacommunity ecology by focusing on inland waters of the Chihuahuan Desert as a study system and investigated rotifer community assembly therein through two published works, Brown et al., 2020 and 2021. …

The Role That Diet And Lifestyle Factor Plays In An Increased Risk For Cardiovascular Disease In Asians And Pacific Islanders, Ethan Caragan
Nursing | Student Research Posters
Cardiovascular disease is the leading global cause of mortality, often resulting in heart attacks and strokes due to obstructed blood flow to vital organs. The risk of these events is influenced by dietary choices, smoking, and physical activity. Despite preventative measures, the impact of diet and lifestyle on cardiovascular health varies across ethnic groups. This thesis aims to evaluate how variations in dietary traditions and lifestyle among Asians and Pacific Islanders contribute to increased or decreased cardiovascular disease risks compared to other racial groups. The study focuses on the dietary and lifestyle factors of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in …

Behavior Change Trajectories And Metabolic Syndrome Risk Factor Clustering During The Transition To College: A Feasibility Pilot Study, Alexandra N. Smith, Lauren Q. Higgins, Simon Higgins
International Journal of Exercise Science
International Journal of Exercise Science 15(5): 125-141, 2022. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is typically diagnosed in adults; however, MetS risk factors are growing in prevalence during youth and young adulthood. Though the transition from high school to college is associated with adverse changes in lifestyle behaviors that may contribute to MetS risk factor development, the relationship between pre-college MetS risk status and transition-related behavior change is unknown. This prospective study aimed to describe the relationship between pre-college MetS risk status and transition-related behavior change trajectories in college-bound students. Moreover, it aimed to assess the feasibility of the study design, including acceptability …

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative condition which consists of stages of mental, memory, and cognitive decline. As it continues to stand as the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S., 44 million people worldwide are affected. The objective of this paper is to explore the risk factors for AD in an attempt to examine potential causes for the incidence of AD. We examined genetics, lifestyle, and pre-existing conditions as risk factors for AD. We found that there are various alleles, such as APP, PSEN, ADAM, APOE, and TREM2, that play a role in the development of AD. It …

Heart Health: Lifestyle Factors That Influence Cardiovascular Well-Being, Holly K. Sawyer
Honors College Theses
Each year, one in every four deaths in the United States is a result of heart disease. As the leading cause of death among women and men from various ethnicities, heart disease may be overlooked when making everyday life decisions. As a group of genetic and behavioral conditions, heart disease is the number one killer of Americans. This may be due to the typical Western diet and daily life choices such as drinking alcohol or smoking tobacco. Heart diseases including atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease kill ten times more women than breast cancer (Lewis, et al., 2017). White men have …

BAU Journal - Health and Wellbeing
Doctors suffer a stressful life and are less satisfied than individuals in other careers. A trend has been observed among medical students in USA showing a change of specialty choice to alleviate their quality of life. Even though most medical students choose their career path based on the field they are most pleased with, it sounds reasonable to get an idea about the quality of life in the specialty they will elect to do. The objective of this study is to evaluate the correlation between specialty choice and the quality of life of Lebanese physicians, to see which specialties have …

There is growing research that directly looks at the relationship between the human diet and the gut microbiome. This paper is a narrative review of the current literature on how the human diet can influence the gut microbiome. Without a healthy gut, bacterial imbalances can occur which have been linked to health complications. There are many factors that affect the gut microbiome such as diet, medications, and exercise. There is also limited research that looks at the macronutrients and their role in gut health. It is known that the type of food that people consume is a major influencer of …

“Intuitive eating is a dynamic process integrating attunement of the mind, body, and food.” (Tribole and Resch 23). Essentially, intuitive eating is a way of life. By listening to inner, natural signals, intuitive eating integrates mind, body, and food for optimal health. Speaking from my own personal experience, intuitive eating truly does promote a healthy lifestyle. I don’t just know about intuitive eating; I live it. I want to share my knowledge and my experience with intuitive eating to those who have never heard of it. Although intuitive eating has gained popularity, especially among dieticians and nutritionists, it still remains …

Assessing The Temporal Dynamics Of The Lower Urinary Tract Microbiota And The Effects Of Lifestyle, Travis Kyle Price
Dissertations
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common bacterial infections in humans, accounting for $3.5 billion in health care expenditures yearly in the United States alone. Yet, treatments for UTI have seen little innovation over the past decade. As demonstrated in other body sites, such as the vagina and gastrointestinal (GI) tract, acute and infectious diseases often have indirect microbial contributions which serve as intriguing new targets for therapies. The recent discovery of the existence of a resident community of bacteria (i.e., microbiota) in the bladders of both women and men, represents a novel avenue for targeting UTIs. However, …
