Multivariate Morphometric Study On Apis Florea Distributed In Iran, Ayça Özkan, Mohammed M. Gharleko, Berna Özden, İrfan Kandemi̇r

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Multivariate Morphometric and Spatial Autocorrelation Analyses were performed to determine the morphometric variation in Apis florea colonies representing 13 localities from 4 states on the coastal north-south diagonal in Iran. New morphometric characters (hind wing length, hind wing width, and hind wing angles) were also measured to determine the usefulness of these characters for Apis florea. Analysis of variance of new morphometric characters showed that 7 out of the 8 hind wing variables displayed statistically significant differences among populations (P < 0.05). The scatter plot from Canonical Variate Analysis revealed that the colonies from north (Ilam, Khuzestan, and Bushehr states) showed an overlapping distribution. The colonies from south (Hormuzgan state) formed a non-overlapping distant cluster. Based on the spatial autocorrelation analysis, 14 correlograms were significant for morphometric characters (According to the Bonferroni criterion). Six characters (CuB, C.Ind, HWW, B4, D7, and I13) showed clinal type correlogram.

Gonad Histology Of The Persian Tooth-Carp Aphanius Persicus (Jenkins, 1910) (Cyprinodontidae) In Southern Iran, Malihezaman Monsefi, Amir Houshang Shiva, Hamid Reza Esmaeili Jan 2009

Gonad Histology Of The Persian Tooth-Carp Aphanius Persicus (Jenkins, 1910) (Cyprinodontidae) In Southern Iran, Malihezaman Monsefi, Amir Houshang Shiva, Hamid Reza Esmaeili

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The histological changes of gonads were studied in Aphanius persicus from the Barm-e-Shoor spring (south of Iran). The gonads were extracted and prepared histologically. The maturity stage of each specimen was examined according to size and weight of gonad, degree of occupation in the body cavity, the type and number of germinal cells (in testis) and follicles (in ovary). We have described 5 sexual stages for females and 4 for males. The total length and body and gonad weight of each specimen increased with increasing maturity stages. In females, the appearance of ripe oocytes was in stage IV and V …

Two New Records Of Reptiles (Reptilia: Squamata) From Southeastern Iran, Mehdi Rajabizadeh, Nasrullah Rastegar-Pouyani Jan 2009

Two New Records Of Reptiles (Reptilia: Squamata) From Southeastern Iran, Mehdi Rajabizadeh, Nasrullah Rastegar-Pouyani

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Based on extensive research, the first record of Coluber (s.l.) andreanus (Werner, 1917) and the first definite record of Laudakia melanura lirata (Blanford, 1874) from southeastern regions of the Iranian Plateau are presented.

Introduction To The Asilidae Fauna (Insecta: Diptera) Of Fars Province, Iran, Nazila Saghaei, Hadi Ostovan, Mahmoud Shojaei, Rüstem Hayat

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Fars province in the south of Iran was surveyed for Asilidae (Insecta: Diptera) during 2006-2007. Twenty six species, belonging to 19 genera and 7 subfamilies: Apocleinae (5 species), Asilinae (7 species), Dasypogoninae (2 species), Laphriinae (2 species), Laphystiinae (1 species), Leptogastrinae (1 species) and Stenopogoninae (8 species), were recorded. Of these, 5 species are new to the fauna of Iran. Additionally 2 subfamilies, 10 genera, and 22 species were recorded for the first time from Fars province. Distributional data for each species are included.

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The karyotypic and cytogenetic characteristics of southern catfish, Glyptothorax silviae Coad, 1981, was investigated for the first time by examining metaphase chromosome spreads obtained from gill epithelial and kidney cells. The diploid chromosome number of this species was 2n = 52. The karyotype consisted of 9 pairs of metacentric, 14 pairs of submetacentric, and 3 pairs of subtelocentric chromosomes. The arm number was 98. No heteromorphic sex chromosomes were cytologically detected in this catfish. Comparison of the chromosome number of this fish with that of the other members of subfamily Glyptosterninae shows that 2n = 52 may be regarded as …

Notes On The True Bug (Heteroptera) Fauna Of Azerbaijan Province, Iran, Mohammad Ali Gharaat, Mohammad Hassanzadeh, Mohammad Hasan Safaralizadeh, Majid Fallahzadeh

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The Heteroptera fauna in east Azerbaijan and west Azerbaijan provinces in northwestern Iran was surveyed during 2005-2006. In all, 73 species from 18 families were collected and identified, of which 1 species, Mozena lunata (Burmeister, 1835) (Coreidae), is a new record for the Palearctic ecozone and 6 species are newly recorded from Iran.
