Age And Growth Of Albacore (Thunnus Alalunga Bonnaterre, 1788) From The Eastern Mediterranean, Fi̇rdes Saadet Karakulak, Eli̇f Özgür, Mehmet Gökoğlu, İbrahi̇m Tamer Emecan, Alparslan Başkaya

Turkish Journal of Zoology

This study was designed to characterize the growth parameters of the albacore, Thunnus alalunga, in the eastern Mediterranean. A total of 819 albacore specimens were collected from gillnet boats operating in Antalya Bay (in the Levantine Sea) between May and July from 2006 to 2008. Individuals were all between 55 and 101 cm in fork length (FL). The fork length was directly proportional to weight, with a relationship of W = 0.00042FL^{2.246} for females, W = 0.00022FL^{2.396} for males, and W = 0.00016FL^{2.467} for males and females combined. Negatively allometric growth was observed in all individuals. Age and growth were …

Biological Characteristics Of The Common Pandora, Pagellus Erythrinus (Linnaeus, 1758), In The Central Aegean Sea, Gülnur Meti̇n, Akin Türker İlkyaz, Ozan Soykan, Hasan Tuncay Kinacigi̇l Jan 2011

Biological Characteristics Of The Common Pandora, Pagellus Erythrinus (Linnaeus, 1758), In The Central Aegean Sea, Gülnur Meti̇n, Akin Türker İlkyaz, Ozan Soykan, Hasan Tuncay Kinacigi̇l

Turkish Journal of Zoology

We investigated the length distribution, sex ratio, sex inversion length, length-weight relationship, age, growth, spawning period, age and length at first maturity of the common pandora inhabiting İzmir Bay. A total of 2654 common pandora were collected by trawl hauls of İzmir Bay (Turkey) between January 2002 and June 2007. The size of the samples ranged from 4.1 cm (0.95 g, February) to 27.8 cm (207.30 g, April) in total length. The samples were composed of 64.7% females, 5.1% males, 0.3% hermaphrodites, and 29.9% immature individuals, with a female to male ratio of 1:0.08. The age composition of the samples …

Effect Of Mycorrhizal Inoculation On Growth, Nitrogen Fixation, And Nutrient Uptake In Cicer Arietinum (L.) Under Salt Stress, Neera Garg, Shikha Chandel Jan 2011

Effect Of Mycorrhizal Inoculation On Growth, Nitrogen Fixation, And Nutrient Uptake In Cicer Arietinum (L.) Under Salt Stress, Neera Garg, Shikha Chandel

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Most legumes in natural conditions form a symbiosis with arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi. AM fungi in saline soils have been reported to improve salinity tolerance and growth in plants. In the present study, interaction between mycorrhizal fungus, Glomus mosseae, and salinity stress in relation to plant growth, nitrogen fixation, and nutrient accumulation was evaluated in Cicer arietinum (L.) (chickpea). Two genotypes of chickpea (Pusa-329, salt tolerant, and Pusa-240, salt sensitive) were compared under different levels of salinity with and without mycorrhizal inoculations. Salt stress resulted in a noticeable decline in shoot and root dry matter accumulation, resulting in a decline …

Effects Of Dietary Fish Oil Replacement By Cottonseed Oil On Growth Performance And Fatty Acid Composition Of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss), Müjde Güler, Mustafa Yildiz Jan 2011

Effects Of Dietary Fish Oil Replacement By Cottonseed Oil On Growth Performance And Fatty Acid Composition Of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss), Müjde Güler, Mustafa Yildiz

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of the present study was to determine the effects of replacing fish oil (FO) with cottonseed oil (CSO), as an alternative plant lipid source in diets for rainbow trout (89.3 ± 1.1 g mean individual weight), on the growth and fatty acid composition of fish. As a control diet, 5 experimental diets were formulated with pure FO and with partial or complete (25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% CSO, respectively) replacement of FO with CSO. The fish were fed 2% of their body weight per day for 60 days at an average water temperature of 10.2 °C. At the …

Age, Growth And Reproduction Of Four-Spotted Goby, Deltentosteus Quadrimaculatus (Valenciennes, 1837), In İzmir Bay (Central Aegean Sea), Gülnur Meti̇n, Akin Türker İlkyaz, Ozan Soykan, Hasan Tuncay Kinacigi̇l Jan 2011

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Length distribution, sex ratio, length-weight relationship, age, growth, spawning period, age, and length at first maturity of four-spotted goby inhabiting İzmir Bay were investigated. A total of 1696 four-spotted goby were collected by trawl hauls between July 2004 and June 2007. The size of the fish sampled ranged from 3.1 to 9.2 cm total length. The samples were composed of 31.1% females, 27.7% males, and 41.2% juvenile individuals, with a female to male ratio of 1:0.89. The age of the fish ranged from 1 to 5 years. The length-weight relationship and the von Bertalanffy growth function were estimated for all …

Length-Weight Relationships For 21 Fish Species Caught In The Argolikos Gulf (Central Aegean Sea, Eastern Mediterranean), Kostas Kapiris, Dimitris Klaoudatos Jan 2011

Length-Weight Relationships For 21 Fish Species Caught In The Argolikos Gulf (Central Aegean Sea, Eastern Mediterranean), Kostas Kapiris, Dimitris Klaoudatos

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The length-weight relationship for both sexes of 21 fish species caught in Argolikos Gulf (central Aegean Sea, eastern Mediterranean), using a variety of fishing gear, was estimated for the first time. Fishing took place between August 2007 and August 2008, and the fishing gear used included gill and trammel nets, long lines, and beach seines from 58 inshore fishing vessels. Individuals caught by trammel nets were usually longer and heavier than those collected by other fishing gear. The allometric coefficient (b) for the majority of species (59%) was statistically significantly higher than 3.0, indicating positive allometry between length and weight …
