A Lessepsian Invader Round Herring (Etrumeus Golanii) With High Genetic Diversitywithout Bottlenecking In The Northeastern Mediterranean Sea, Solmaz Ezgi̇ Çi̇ftci̇, Fevzi̇ Bardakci

Turkish Journal of Zoology

In this study, population genetic structure and genetic diversity of round herring in the Turkish seas were determined using sequence data of mitochondrial DNA control region. Round herring, Etrumeus golanii samples were collected from three localities along the Turkish coast of the Mediterranean Sea, (Gulf of İskenderun and Gulf of Antalya) and southern Aegean Sea (Gulf of Marmaris). Genetic variability was high both within and between the populations based on haplotype diversity values. The results have shown that each population has a high genetic diversity with unique mtDNA haplotypes with unique genetic structure. The most important factor in the emergence …

First Report Of The Chilli Thrips, Scirtothrips Dorsalis Hood, 1919 (Thysanoptera:Thripidae) In Turkey, Ekrem Atakan, Serkan Pehli̇van

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The chilli thrips, Scirtothrips dorsalis Hood, 1919 (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) was reported for the first time in Adana Province, Turkey in October, 2020 on blueberries [Vaccinium myrtillus L. (Ericaceae)]. Its heavy infestation was detected on the vegetative parts of the blueberries. In this short communication, a brief summary of its diagnosis and damage as well as its economic importance in the region is provided.

Contributions To The Turkish Oribatid Mite Fauna (Acari: Oribatida) From Sakarya Andyozgat Provinces, Sedat Per, Kübra Çubukçu, Ayşe Toluk, Nusret Ayyildiz

Turkish Journal of Zoology

This study deals with the data on Turkish records of oribatid mites that play an important role in decomposition of organic matter, nutrient cycling, and soil formation. Oribatid mites in litter, lichen, moss, and soil collected from Sakarya and Yozgat provinces were sampled between 2014 and 2020. Standard methods were used for extraction, detection, preservation, and preparation of mites from the material collected from study area. Five oribatid mites were for the first time recorded from Turkey, namely Mesotritia (Mesotritia) nuda (Berlese, 1887) (Oribotritiidae), Hoplophorella (Rhacaplacarus) ortizi (Pérez-Íñigo, 1970) (Phthiracaridae), Eremaeus translamellatus Hammer, 1952 (Eremaeidae), Oribatella (Oribatella) foliata Krivolutsky, 1974 …

Ant Fauna (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) Of Central Anatolian Region Of Turkey, Kadri̇ Kiran, Celal Karaman Jan 2021

Ant Fauna (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) Of Central Anatolian Region Of Turkey, Kadri̇ Kiran, Celal Karaman

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The Central Anatolian part of Turkey was investigated with the aim of determining its Formicidae fauna. Specimens were collected by hand sampling and pitfall traps in 24 habitats in 383 different localities in Central Anatolia Region during 2001-2016. As a result, 137 species belonging to 34 genera were determined. Messor incorruptus Kuznetsov-Ugamsky, 1929 and Ponera testacea Emery, 1895 are new records for Turkish ant fauna. We excluded four species, Camponotus sylvaticus (Oliver, 1792), Messor meridionalis (André, 1883), Proformica striaticeps (Forel, 1911) and Tapinoma nigerrimum (Nylander, 1856), from Turkish ant fauna due to recent taxonomic data and distribution pattern. With these …

A Study On The Pupal Development Of Calliphora Vomitoria (L., 1758) (Calliphoridae: Diptera) At Different Temperatures, Osman Sert, Ceyda Ergi̇l Jan 2021

A Study On The Pupal Development Of Calliphora Vomitoria (L., 1758) (Calliphoridae: Diptera) At Different Temperatures, Osman Sert, Ceyda Ergi̇l

Turkish Journal of Zoology

In this study, the pupal development process of the Calliphora vomitoria (L. 1758), widely used in the estimation of postmortem time in forensic entomology, was examined. In the last decade, studies of the development periods in the pupal stage and the development times of these periods have increased around the world and specifically in Turkey. In this study, the aim was to detect the pupal development periods of the Calliphora vomitoria via a process of hourly pupal dissection, a process that would be the only one of its kind in the literature for this species. This method was repeated under …
