Turkish Journal of Zoology

Twelve species of the genus Ophiomorus DUMÉRIL & BIBRON, 1839 have been identified and introduced so far and seven species of this genus have been found in Iran which include four endemic species and three nonendemic species. Although geometric morphometry is a powerful tool to analyze morphological changes, the discovery and identification of these species have long relied on traditional morphometric analysis. In this study, geometric morphometric analyses were used to determine the geometric morphometrics of different species of the genus Ophiomorus in Iran. The Multi Focus technique was used to obtain the best image of the dorsal surface of …

Phylogenetic Status And Genetic Diversity Of Corsac Fox(Vulpes Corsac) In Golestan Province, Iran, Jalil Imani Harsini, Hamid Reza Rezaei, Saeid Naderi, Hosein Varasteh Moradi Jan 2017

Phylogenetic Status And Genetic Diversity Of Corsac Fox(Vulpes Corsac) In Golestan Province, Iran, Jalil Imani Harsini, Hamid Reza Rezaei, Saeid Naderi, Hosein Varasteh Moradi

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The lack of detailed and precise reports about the presence of corsac fox has caused ambiguities about the presence or absence or even extinction status of this species in its distribution range in Iran. Therefore, this is one of the complicated issues in Iran?s wildlife fauna and there has been no clear scientific answer to this question to date. In this study, 7 mitochondrial DNA control region haplotypes were identified in 10 corsac fox samples (4 tissue and 6 scat) taken from Golestan Province in Iran, and haplotype diversity was equal to 0.93. The genetic distance between individuals showed large …

The phylogenetic tree inferred from partial sequences of the 28S rRNA (D2D3 segments) grouped the Iranian isolate with other T. zeae sequences, forming a strongly supported clade (Bayesian posterior probability: …

Developmental Differences Of Local Populations Of Alfalfa Weevil (Hypera Postica) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), Ehsan Sanaei, Marjan Seiedy Jan 2016

Developmental Differences Of Local Populations Of Alfalfa Weevil (Hypera Postica) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), Ehsan Sanaei, Marjan Seiedy

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Many invasive insect pests show phenotypic variation between local populations across their geographical range. Understanding and integrating such differences will help to improve pest management. Population differences are the result of local adaptation to environmental conditions and may be detected using ecological analyses. Immature stages may represent especially interesting study objects as they represent important stages in the life cycle of insects and in many cases may be the most destructive stage. The alfalfa weevil, Hypera postica (Gyllenhal, 1813), is a variable worldwide pest that heavily damages alfalfa fields and is widely distributed in Iran. The lack of information about …

The highest endemicity is found in the Tigris-Karoun basin in the west, followed by the Kor River and the Persian Gulf basins in the south. Creation of the landlocked basins played an important role …

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The false horned vipers of the genus Pseudocerastes consist of 3 species; all have been recorded in Iran. These include Pseudocerastes persicus, P. fieldi, and P. urarachnoides. Morphologically, the taxonomic border between P. fieldi and P. persicus is not as clear as that between P. urarachnoides and P. persicus or P. fieldi. Regarding the weak diagnostic characters differentiating P. fieldi from P. persicus and very robust characters separating P. urarachnoides from both, there may arise some uncertainty in the exact taxonomic status of P. urarachnoides and whether it should remain at the current specific level or be elevated to a …

A New Hemiscorpius Peters, 1861 (Scorpiones: Hemiscorpiidae) From Southwestern Iran, Ayşegül Karataş, Muhammed Mouradi Gharkheloo

Turkish Journal of Zoology

A new Hemiscorpius species, H. kashkayi sp. nov., is described from the Khuzestan and Ahwaz region in southwestern Iran. H. kashkayi is related to H. persicus Birula, 1903, known from Baluchestan in eastern Iran, which does not show sexual dimorphism between males and females, like H. kashkayi. These 2 species differ from all other Iranian Hemiscorpiidae species in having no sexual dimorphism. H. kashkayi is distinguished from H. persicus by its relatively short and well-developed stout metasoma and pedipalp segments, less developed patellar process, and carapacial and mesosomal carination.
