To date, 13 species of Ponto-Caspian amphipods have been reported from the inland waters of Turkey. Two, probably overlooked species, Echinogammarus trichiatus and Dikerogammarus villosus, are here recorded for the first time from this country. Due to the atypical morphology, the identity of E. Trichiatus was also verified with molecular methods, based on the mtDNA COI barcode. Both species, along with five other co-occurring Ponto-Caspian amphipods, were collected from Lake Durusu in September 2007. Our finding reveals high diversity of amphipods in this water body. It also presents the southernmost known localities of both species, and expands the checklist of …

This study is based upon material of the subfamily Agathidinae collected from different localities in the Central Anatolia Region of Turkey from 1988 to 2008. The study resulted in the recording for the Turkish fauna of 14 species belonging to 3 genera (Agathis Latreille, 1804; Bassus Fabricius, 1804; and Disophrys Förster, 1862) within the subfamily Agathidinae. Agathis fischeri Zettel and Beyarslan, Agathis fulmeki Fischer, Agathis fuscipennis (Zetterstedt), Agathis glaucoptera Nees, Agathis lugubris (Förster), Agathis malvacearum Latreille, Agathis nigra Nees, Agathis varipes Thomson, Bassus linguarius (Nees), Bassus tumidulus (Nees), and Disophrys caesa (Klug) are recorded for the first time in the …

Discoloration of the leaves of unhealthy pomegranate trees, caused by the Coleopteran species Amphicerus bimaculatus (Olivier, 1790), was found in a newly planted pomegranate orchard in April 2011 in northern Greece (Vrontou area). Identification of the species was based on morphological characteristics. This report is the first record of A. Bimaculatus in Greece infesting pomegranate trees.
