Preliminary Data On The Age Structure Of Asaccus Barani (Baran's Leaf-Toed Gecko)From Southeastern Anatolia, Turkey, Tuğba Ergül Kalayci, Abdullah Altunişik, Çi̇ğdem Gül, Nurhayat Özdemi̇r, Murat Tosunoğlu
Turkish Journal of Zoology
In this study, the age structure of an Asaccus barani sample from Şanlıurfa (southeastern Anatolia, Turkey) was determined by skeletochronology for the first time. A total of 17 preserved adults (7♂♂, 10♀♀) were evaluated, and the maximum observed lifespan was recorded as 6 years in males and 5 years in females. The first line of arrested growth was partially eroded by endosteal resorption in 29% of individuals and completely eroded in 18%. The mean age was 3.85 ± 0.50 years in males and 3.80 ± 0.32 years in females; the mean snout-vent length (SVL) was 46.99 ± 2.64 mm (range: …
Age Structure Of Hemidactylus Turcicus (L., 1758) (Sauria: Gekkonidae) From Southwestern Anatolia (Muğla, Turkey), Betül Kanat, Cemal Varol Tok
Age Structure Of Hemidactylus Turcicus (L., 1758) (Sauria: Gekkonidae) From Southwestern Anatolia (Muğla, Turkey), Betül Kanat, Cemal Varol Tok
Turkish Journal of Zoology
In this study, a total of 36 (12♂♂, 18♀♀, 6 juveniles) Hemidactylus turcicus specimens, caught in the vicinity of Muğla (Turkey) between 2006 and 2011, were evaluated using the skeletochronology method. The mean snout-to-vent length (SVL) was measured as 28.45 ± 1.92 mm for juveniles, 50.53 ± 1.06 mm for males, and 51.1 ± 0.75 mm for females. When the cross-sections were examined, the age range was determined to be 4-8 years in the males and 4-9 years in the females. Individuals reach sexual maturity in 2-3 years. The maximum age was calculated as 9 years for a female. It …
Altitudinal Effects On The Life History Of The Anatolian Lizard (Apathya Cappadocica, Werner 1902) From Southeastern Anatolia, Turkey, Serkan Gül, Nurhayat Özdemi̇r, Azi̇z Avci, Yusuf Kumlutaş, Çeti̇n Ilgaz
Altitudinal Effects On The Life History Of The Anatolian Lizard (Apathya Cappadocica, Werner 1902) From Southeastern Anatolia, Turkey, Serkan Gül, Nurhayat Özdemi̇r, Azi̇z Avci, Yusuf Kumlutaş, Çeti̇n Ilgaz
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Altitudinal gradients are an important variable in testing the life history traits (e.g., longevity, age at maturity, and body size) of organisms. In this study, the life history traits of the Anatolian lizard Apathya cappadocica were examined from 3 populations from different altitudes (Kilis, 697 m; Şanlıurfa, 891 m; Diyarbakır, 1058 m) from southeastern Anatolia, Turkey. Age structure was determined by using skeletochronology. Males in all populations were the larger sex; therefore, the populations showed male biases that were negative by the sexual size dimorphism index. Males in Diyarbakır (high altitude) were also younger than males in the other populations. …
Age Estimation Of Anatololacerta Anatolica (Werner, 1902) In The Vicinity Of Çanakkale By Skeletochronology, Batuhan Yaman Yakin, Cemal Varol Tok
Age Estimation Of Anatololacerta Anatolica (Werner, 1902) In The Vicinity Of Çanakkale By Skeletochronology, Batuhan Yaman Yakin, Cemal Varol Tok
Turkish Journal of Zoology
In this study, age estimation using skeletochronology was done in 43 specimens (6 males, 29 females, 8 juv.) of Anatololacerta anatolica living in the vicinity of Çanakkale. When the cross-sections taken from phalanges were examined, the median age for the Çanakkale population was 4 years. The maximum age was calculated as 10 years for female individuals, and the maximum snout-vent length (SVL) of female individuals was measured as 74.18 mm. The mean SVL was 57.39 (SD = 4.6) mm for males and 63.62 (SD = 8.62) mm for females. The age at sexual maturity was determined as 3 years for …
