Soybean is a most important crop worldwide, accounting for 56% of world oilseed production and 69% of world protein meal consumption in 2003 (Soystats, 2004). Since their introduction in the early 1800's, forage soybeans have been grown widely in USA. Used originally as a forage crop, this use largely had been forgotten until Dr T. E. Devine (United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service; USDA-ARS) released 4 new forage cultivars. Irrigated soybeans were grown in 2018 and 2019 at the Kansas River Valley Experi­ment Field near Rossville, KS. Soybeans were planted in 30-inch or 15-inch rows and a standard pre-emergent herbicide was applied. Planting dates were May 11 and June 4 in 2018 and 2019, respectively. The post-emergent herbicide was applied at approxi­mately 21 or 35 days following soybean planting (DAP). Weed control and crop injury were visually evaluated approximately every seven days following herbicide application. Yields, moisture, and test weights were calculated from the center two rows in 30-inch plots and four rows in 15-inch plots after combine harvest. …

The development of glyphosate-resistant weeds has greatly complicated weed control in soybeans. Roundup Ready 2 Xtend and Liberty Link soybeans provide an alternative postemergence herbicide options for weed control in soybeans. Liberty Link and Roundup Ready 2 Xtend programs provided better overall weed control and slightly higher yields than Roundup Ready 2 Yield programs in this experiment. Yields of Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans were likely influenced by more weed competition and possibly crop injury from spray tank contamination by dicamba. Dicamba injury from tank contamination to Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans decreased with each subsequent treatment and also with …

In Arkansas Delta soybean production, glyphosate resistant (GR) Palmer amaranth has significantly impacted weed management. The incidence of herbicide resistant (HR) weeds has farreaching crop science, economic, and communications implications, which have been explored by the corresponding expertise of our research team members to form a comprehensive literature review. The review was used to develop policy recommendations to address current and future HR genetically modified (GM) crop use and the associated issues. This thesis is divided into four chapters. Chapter I introduces the rationale behind the study and gives a brief overview of the overall study covering weed control, irrigation needs and nitrogen fixation amounts across soybean maturity group. Chapter II will go into further detail outlining the first applied experiment dealing with weed control and irrigation issues. Alternative weed control methods are analyzed in conjunction with irrigation risk analysis across soybean maturity group in response to agricultural issues of glyphosate resistance and declining ground water supply in the Arkansas delta region. Through annual research reports, the Southeast Kansas Branch Experiment Station attempts to keep the area's consumers and producers of agricultural products informed on the Station's research accomplishments. In serving the area, we conduct research at fields located at Parsons, site of the headquarters; at Mound Valley, the original location of the Branch Station; and at Columbus, which has been in the Kansas State University research system for over 60 years.
