A Comprehensive Study On The Molecular Characterization Of Tomato Spotted Wilt Orthotospovirus Isolates And Resistance Genes In Pepper And Tomato, Qurat Ul Ain Sajid, Emi̇nur Elçi̇

Turkish Journal of Botany

Tomato spotted wilt orthotospovirus (TSWV, Orthotospovirus tomatomaculae) resistance genes (Tsw, Sw5) have been identified in pepper and tomato plants. The development of resistant cultivars is one of the popular management strategies for overcoming viral infections. However, the breakdown of resistance genes has been documented from many places where resistant cultivars have been developed. This has mainly been due to the emergence of resistance-breaking (RB) lines because of the consecutive use of these cultivars. The development of these isolates may cause great losses in both tomato and pepper plants in Türkiye. To investigate the incidence of TSWV, 150 symptomatic samples were …

Effect Of Ash Carbon Nanofibers On Gaba Shunt Pathway In Germinating Seeds Of Tomato (Lycopersicon Esculentum Mill., C.V. Rohaba.) Under Salt Stress, Nisreen Alquraan, Mohammed Al-Omari, Alaa Ayoub Jan 2021

Effect Of Ash Carbon Nanofibers On Gaba Shunt Pathway In Germinating Seeds Of Tomato (Lycopersicon Esculentum Mill., C.V. Rohaba.) Under Salt Stress, Nisreen Alquraan, Mohammed Al-Omari, Alaa Ayoub

Turkish Journal of Botany

The aim of the current study was to examine the effect of black ash carbon nanofibers (CNFs) on gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) shunt pathway in germinating seeds of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill., c.v. Rohaba) under salt stress. Seed?s germination pattern, seed moisture content, GABA shunt metabolite levels (GABA, Glutamate and Alanine), total proteins and total carbohydrates, and the level of oxidative damage in response to sodium chloride (NaCl) treatments were determined. A significant increase of moisture content in CNFs treated seeds associated with significant increases in germination percentage was found. Data also showed a significant increase in GABA shunt metabolites in …

Responses To Cadmium Stress In Two Tomato Genotypes Differing In Heavy Metal Accumulation, Shouping Zhao, Yongzhi Zhang, Xuezhu Ye, Qi Zhang, Wendan Xiao Jan 2015

Responses To Cadmium Stress In Two Tomato Genotypes Differing In Heavy Metal Accumulation, Shouping Zhao, Yongzhi Zhang, Xuezhu Ye, Qi Zhang, Wendan Xiao

Turkish Journal of Botany

Our previous research defined two tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) genotypes: high cadmium (Cd) accumulator YSL189 and low Cd accumulator HZ903. Further hydroponics experiments investigated the different tolerance mechanisms to Cd stress between YSL189 and HZ903 at the seedling stage. When Cd concentration was >20 µM in the growing medium, the uptake rate of Cd was significantly higher in roots of YSL189 than it was in roots of HZ903. When plants were supplied with 50 and 100 µM Cd in the growing medium, there were higher Cd concentration, higher biomass and plant height, shorter roots, and higher expression levels of transporter genes …

The Effects Of Brassinosteroid On The Induction Of Biochemical Changes In Lycopersicon Esculentum Under Drought Stress, Mehri Behnamnia, Khosrow Manochehri Kalantari, Jalal Ziaie Jan 2009

The Effects Of Brassinosteroid On The Induction Of Biochemical Changes In Lycopersicon Esculentum Under Drought Stress, Mehri Behnamnia, Khosrow Manochehri Kalantari, Jalal Ziaie

Turkish Journal of Botany

Drought stress is considered a restricting factor for plant products; therefore many compounds were applied to minimise the harmful effects of stress. One type of these compounds that have antioxidative characteristics is brassinosteroids. In this experiment, when 4 fully expanded leaves of tomato plants appeared, 24-epibrassinolide (24-EBL) was sprayed onto the leaves at 0.01 and 1 µM concentrations for 3 days with a 1-day interval. Three levels of drought stress (0, 3, and 5 days withholding water) were applied. Thereafter, the effects of brassinosteroids and water stress were investigated on some biochemical and antioxidative parameters of tomato plants. Lipid peroxidation, …

Combining Ability Analysis Of Yield And Yield Components In Tomato (Lycopersicum Esculentum Mill.), Mohammad Mofidul Hannan, Manosh Kumar Biswas, Mohammad Bulbul Ahmed, Monzur Hossain, Rafiul Islam

Turkish Journal of Botany

The nature of the inheritance of plant height at 60 days, number of flowers per cluster, number of fruits per plant, fruit weight per plant, and number of seeds per fruit was studied from a 10-parent diallel cross of Lycopersicum esculentum Mill. Due to their high general combining ability effects, Pusharubi, Bari-4, and Dynasagor parents were suggested for future hybridisation programmes. For yield, the crosses Deshy x Ratan, Deshy x Epoch, Dynasagor x Ratan, Bari-4 x Pusharubi, and Dynamo x Namdhari had good specific combining ability effects and they were recommended because they produce stable performing rare transgressive segregants. A …

Effect Of Zinc Treatment On The Alleviation Of Sodium And Chloride Injury In Tomato (Lycopersicum Esculentum(L.) Mill. Cv. Lale) Grown Under Salinity, Mehmet Alpaslan, Ali İnal, Aydın Güneş, Yakup Çikili, Hesna Özcan

Turkish Journal of Botany

Nonsaline and saline (30 mM NaCl), Zn (10, 20, 40 mg kg -1 ) and without Zn treatment and factorial combinations of NaCl and Zn on the fresh and dry weights of the plants, and sodium (Na), chloride (Cl) and zinc (Zn) contents of both young and old leaves were determined and the effects of Zn on the Na and Cl translocation within the plants were investigated. Salinity decreased the fresh and dry weights of the plants while this effect of salinity diminished with increasing Zn levels. Na and Cl con-centrations of both young and old leaf tissues decreased with …

Regeneration And Agrobacterium-Mediated Transformationstudies In Tomato ( Lycopersicon Esculentum Miller), Hüseyi̇n Avni̇ Öktem, Yeter Bülbül, Emre Öktem, Meral Yücel

Turkish Journal of Botany

An optimized regeneration protocol and a suitable transformation technique is a necessity in obtaining transgenic plants in a given plant species. This work summarizes a simple culture method to obtain rooted plants from leaf pieces of two tomato cul-tivars (ES58 and WC156) within 3-4 months. Here, we also present our preliminary results on transformation experiments carried out with 8-day-old cotyledon explants and Agrobacterium tumefaciensEHA105 strain.
