Dna Barcoding Analysis And Phylogenetic Relationships Of Indian Wild Coffee Species, Manoj Mishra, Pavankumar Jingade, Arun Kumar C Huded Jan 2022

Dna Barcoding Analysis And Phylogenetic Relationships Of Indian Wild Coffee Species, Manoj Mishra, Pavankumar Jingade, Arun Kumar C Huded

Turkish Journal of Botany

Wild coffee species are the reservoirs of genetic diversity and could play a critical role in the genetic improvement of coffee. However, the conservation and genetic assessment of wild coffee species has been largely neglected. In the present study, DNA barcoding approaches were employed to assess the phylogenetic relationships between five indigenous wild coffee species from India and compared with two cultivated, and four wild coffee species of African origin. The efficacy of three barcoding loci namely matK,rbcL, and trnL-trnF was investigated using PCR amplification and sequence characterization. The intergenic spacer trnL-trnF is the highly polymorphic loci followed by matK …

Running Sigmas Analysis Of Sampled Molecular Paraphyly In Pottiaceae (Bryophyta), Richard Zander Jan 2021

Running Sigmas Analysis Of Sampled Molecular Paraphyly In Pottiaceae (Bryophyta), Richard Zander

Turkish Journal of Botany

A spreadsheet dealing with standard deviations allows statistical examination of continuous variables associated with paraphyly in systematics, with examples in the Pottiaceae (Bryophyta). Outlier values in taxonomic representation of distribution with the structure of (w-)x-y(-z) of continuous variables can be empirically supported. The use of the geometric mean and intuitional estimation is reexamined. Published reports of the distance between maximally distant exemplars of individual paraphyletic species in molecular cladograms in several studies were reevaluated as metadata. Levels of standard deviations were assigned with the Running Sigmas spreadsheet. A spike in width of exemplars of a paraphyletic species of a moss …

Mitochondrial Genome Sequencing And Phylogenetic Analysis Of Cynodon Dactylon × Cynodon Transvaalensis, Shilian Huang, Yancai Shi, Miao Chen Jan 2020

Mitochondrial Genome Sequencing And Phylogenetic Analysis Of Cynodon Dactylon × Cynodon Transvaalensis, Shilian Huang, Yancai Shi, Miao Chen

Turkish Journal of Botany

Cynodon dactylon × Cynodon transvaalensis is one of the most important turfgrasses. Sequencing the C. dactylon × C. transvaalensis mitochondrial genome can help us learn more about its genomic composition and allow further study of the population genetics, taxonomy, and evolutionary biology of Poaceae plants and other related species. Here the C. dactylon × C. transvaalensis mitochondrial genome was sequenced using Illumina HiSeq combined with PacBio sequencing technology, and the map of the mitochondrial genome was constructed after de novo assembly and annotation. The C. dactylon × C. transvaalensis mitochondrial genome has 366,612 bp and contains 53 genes, including 31 …

Trichome Micromorphology And Its Significance In The Systematics Of Convolvulus L. (Convolvulaceae), Elham Roudi, Hamed Khodayari, Valiollah Mozaffarian, Shahin Zarre Jan 2020

Trichome Micromorphology And Its Significance In The Systematics Of Convolvulus L. (Convolvulaceae), Elham Roudi, Hamed Khodayari, Valiollah Mozaffarian, Shahin Zarre

Turkish Journal of Botany

Trichomes of 35 species of the genus Convolovulus and one species of the genus Calystegia (C. sepium) were investigated using light and scanning electron microscopy. The trichomes show a great variation, which provides valuable data for sections and species delimitation in Convolvulus. Trichomes of Convolvulus are nonglandular, simple, and basifixed or rarely asymmetrically medifixed. Characters of taxonomic interest were the degree of curviness (straight to spiral), orientation relative to the epidermal surface (appressed to erect), and presence of papillae on trichome surface. The trichomes are divided into two basic types: cylindrical and flattened ribbon-like. Our data provide the additional evidence …

First Molecular Records Of Potentially Harmful Planktonic Dinoflagellatesfrom The Southern Black Sea, Özgür Baytut, Cem Tolga Gürkanli, Eda Deni̇z, İbrahi̇m Özkoç, Ari̇f Gönülol Jan 2016

First Molecular Records Of Potentially Harmful Planktonic Dinoflagellatesfrom The Southern Black Sea, Özgür Baytut, Cem Tolga Gürkanli, Eda Deni̇z, İbrahi̇m Özkoç, Ari̇f Gönülol

Turkish Journal of Botany

The aim of this study was to identify dinoflagellate species from the Black Sea (Samsun coast) using conventional and molecular phylogenetic methods. Water samples were collected using a plankton net with 22 µm pores. Dinoflagellate cells were documented under a light microscope and were then isolated for the single-cell PCR procedure. Phylogenetic inference showed that the isolates collected from the study area were affiliated with various harmful taxa: Dinophysis acuta Ehrenberg and Phalacroma rotundatum (Claparéde & Lachmann) Kofoid & Michener from dinophysioids, and Prorocentrum compressum (Bailey) Abé ex Dodge, P. cordatum (Ostenfeld) Dodge, and P. micans Ehrenberg from prorocentroids. In …

Taxonomical Notes On Stachys Sect. Eriostomum (Lamiaceae) In Turkey, Ekrem Akçi̇çek, Tuncay Di̇rmenci̇, Ekrem Dündar Jan 2012

Taxonomical Notes On Stachys Sect. Eriostomum (Lamiaceae) In Turkey, Ekrem Akçi̇çek, Tuncay Di̇rmenci̇, Ekrem Dündar

Turkish Journal of Botany

As a part of a revisional study of Stachys L. sect. Eriostomum (Hoffmanns. & Link) Dumort. (Lamiaceae), 4 taxa [S. tymphaea Hausskn., S. thracica Davidov, S. cretica L. subsp. cretica, and S. cretica L. subsp. salviifolia (Ten.) Rech.f.] were recorded for the first time from Turkey. S. cretica subsp. trapezuntica Rech.f., which was described based on 3 syntypes [Bourgeau 695; Sintenis 3432 (designated here as the lectotype); Handel-Mazzetti 324] near Trabzon, had not been collected again since 1907. It was found in 2 syntype localities from Trabzon in 2010 during this study, for the first time in 103 years. For …
