Effect Of Fungicide Pretreatment On Lipid Peroxidation, Antioxidant Enzyme Systems And Proline Accumulation In Tomato (Lycopersicon Esculentum Mill.) Leaves Under High Temperature Stress, Eli̇f Yüzbaşioğlu

Turkish Journal of Botany

The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of high temperature stress (HT) and to evaluate the protective role of fungicide pretreatment against HT stress in tomato leaves. The oxidative stress was triggered under HT stress through an increase in the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Also, it caused a decline in photosynthetic pigments and enhanced the proline in tomato. However, the activities of catalase (CAT; EC 1.11.1.6), peroxidase (POX; EC 1.11.1.7), and glutathione S-transferase (GST; EC.2.5.1.18), as well as ascorbate-glutathione cycle enzymes (APX, EC 1.11.1.11, DHAR, EC 1.8.5.1, MDHAR EC 1.6.5.4, GR; EC …

Turkish Journal of Botany

A pot culture study was performed to evaluate the differences between salt-stressed pea (Pisum sativum L.) plants of tolerant (Climax and Samarina Zard) and sensitive (Ambassidar and PF-400) genotypes, and to determine whether treatment with 24-epibrassinolide (EBL) could enhance the accumulation of osmolytes and antioxidant activity and thereby induce tolerance in salt-stressed plants. Three-week-old seedlings were subjected to +NaCl (5 dS m^-1) and -NaCl conditions (0 dS m^-1). After 4 days of salt stress, the plants were sprayed with Milli-Q water or EBL (0.125 mg L^-1). The plants were sampled at 32 days after sowing and at the final maturity …

Time-Dependent Effect Of Salicylic Acid On Alleviating Cold Damage In Two Barley Cultivars Differing In Cold Tolerance, Sali̇h Mutlu, Ömer Karadağoğlu, Ökkeş Atici, Esen Taşğin, Barbaros Nalbantoğlu Jan 2013

Time-Dependent Effect Of Salicylic Acid On Alleviating Cold Damage In Two Barley Cultivars Differing In Cold Tolerance, Sali̇h Mutlu, Ömer Karadağoğlu, Ökkeş Atici, Esen Taşğin, Barbaros Nalbantoğlu

Turkish Journal of Botany

The time-dependent effect of salicylic acid (SA) on alleviating cold damage in the Tokak (tolerant) and Akhisar (sensitive) varieties of barley (Hordeum vulgare) was investigated. Seedlings subjected to 0.0, 0.1, and 1 mM SA for 7 days were transferred to cold (7/5 °C) on days 7, 14, 21, and 28 for 3 days. It was found that 0.1 mM SA had a greater alleviating effect, decreasing the freezing injury in both varieties for at least 10 days after the application. Moreover, 0.1 mM SA had a greater effect on alleviation in Tokak by increasing the ice nucleation activity of apoplastic …

Effects Of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Inoculation On Biochemical Parameters In Capsicum Annuum Grown Under Long Term Salt Stress, Fazi̇let Özlem Çeki̇ç, Serpi̇l Ünyayar, İbrahi̇m Ortaş

Turkish Journal of Botany

Salt stress is an important environmental stress. Plants cope with salt stress with different strategies. In this study the effects of 2 different arbuscular mycorrhiza species (Glomus mosseae and G. intraradices) on some biochemical parameters in pepper plants (Capsicum annuum L. cv. Cumaovası) exposed to long term salt stress were studied. It was found that mycorrhizal inoculation increased RWC, P, total chlorophyll, and carotenoid content of pepper plants during salt application. The enzyme activities changed depending on the enzyme and salt stress application. The lowest MDA content was found in the plants inoculated with G. intraradices; however, there was no …

The Relationship Between The Antioxidant System And Phycocyanin Production In Spirulina Maxima With Respect To Nitrate Concentration, Razi̇ye Öztürk Ürek, Leman Tarhan

Turkish Journal of Botany

The relationship among antioxidant enzyme activities, such as iron-superoxide dismutase (FeSOD) and ascorbate-dependent peroxidase (AsA-POD), and phycocyanin, chlorophyll, total carotenoid, ascorbate contents, and lipid peroxidation (LPO) levels were investigated in Spirulina maxima SAG 84.79 in nitrate limited (10 mM), control (30 mM), and supplemented (50 mM) conditions. In the present study, extracellular nitrate and intracellular iron, magnesium, and copper levels were also investigated. The highest FeSOD and AsA-POD activities and chlorophyll content and the lowest LPO levels were found in control conditions on day 13: 21.9 ± 1.5, 5.7 ± 0.3 IU mg^{-1}, 16.2 ± 0.5 mg g^{-1}, and 0.322 …

The Effects Of Brassinosteroid On The Induction Of Biochemical Changes In Lycopersicon Esculentum Under Drought Stress, Mehri Behnamnia, Khosrow Manochehri Kalantari, Jalal Ziaie

Turkish Journal of Botany

Drought stress is considered a restricting factor for plant products; therefore many compounds were applied to minimise the harmful effects of stress. One type of these compounds that have antioxidative characteristics is brassinosteroids. In this experiment, when 4 fully expanded leaves of tomato plants appeared, 24-epibrassinolide (24-EBL) was sprayed onto the leaves at 0.01 and 1 µM concentrations for 3 days with a 1-day interval. Three levels of drought stress (0, 3, and 5 days withholding water) were applied. Thereafter, the effects of brassinosteroids and water stress were investigated on some biochemical and antioxidative parameters of tomato plants. Lipid peroxidation, …

The Effects Of Ultraviolet Radiation On The Contents Of Chlorophyll, Flavonoid, Anthocyanin And Proline In Capsicum Annuum L., Kobra Mahdavian, M. Ghorbanli, Khosrow Manochehri Kalantari Jan 2008

The Effects Of Ultraviolet Radiation On The Contents Of Chlorophyll, Flavonoid, Anthocyanin And Proline In Capsicum Annuum L., Kobra Mahdavian, M. Ghorbanli, Khosrow Manochehri Kalantari

Turkish Journal of Botany

Although ultraviolet radiation is potentially harmful, it is an important component of terrestrial radiation to which plants have been exposed since invading land. Since then, plants have evolved mechanisms to avoid and repair UV radiation damage. Therefore, it is not surprising that photomorphogenic responses to UV-B and UV-C are often assumed to be adaptations to harmful radiation. Most of the compounds accumulated are directly involved in UV-B and UV-C protection: they are either efficient in filtering excess radiation or in scavenging radicals. In this study plants were grown for 5 weeks in controlled environment room. The plants were grown in …
