Astragalus nurhakdagensis, a new species from the south of Turkey was described, illustrated, and compared to the closest taxa Astragalus hirsutus, A. dumanii and A. cataonicus from which it is set apart by a longer calyx length (13-14 mm) and calyx teeth (7-9 mm, longer than tube), white corolla colour, longer bracts (13-15 mm) and black hairy stripes below the stem nodes. In A. hirsutus, the calyx length (6-10 mm) and calyx teeth are much smaller (2-3 mm long, shorter than tube), with yellow corolla colour and without black hairy stripes. Astragalus aybarsii H. Duman & Aytaç (Fabaceae) is described and illustrated as a new species from Kastamonu province (Turkey). The new species grows in open areas of Pinus brutia Ten. forests. Diagnostic and morphological charactersof the new species are compared with its close relatives, A. setulosus Boiss. & Balansa and A. eubrychioides Boiss. Also, some notes on the ecology, biogeography, conservation status and the pollen morphological and leaflet micromorphological features of the new species are presented. The geographical distribution of this new species and its allied species is mapped.

In this study, the synopsis of the taxa of the genus Trigonella in Turkey is presented. It is represented with 34 taxa in Turkey. The name of Trigonella coelesyriaca was misspelled to Flora of Turkey and the correct name of this species, Trigonella caelesyriaca, was given in this study. The endemic Trigonella raphanina has been reduced to synonym of T. cassia and T. balansae is reduced to synonym of T. corniculata. In addition, T. spruneriana var. sibthorpii is reevaluated as a distinct species. Lectotypification was designated for T. capitata, T. spruneriana and T. velutina. Several species within the genus Lotus are important forage crops, and many are endangered or rare. Despite the high genetic diversity of the genus, identification of Lotus species is problematic because of the limited number of reliable morphological markers. In search of a quick, inexpensive, and steady method for species identification, genome size and cell cycle/endoreduplication intensity of 14 accessions belonging to eight Lotus species were estimated by flow cytometry. ISSR-PCR was also applied to find sensitive molecular markers for genetic diversity estimation. Leaflet Trichome Micromorphology In The Dolentes-Brevipedes Taxonomic Complex (Mimosa L., Mimosoideae), Mariana Grohar, Sonia Rosenfeldt, Matias Morales

We studied leaflets of 18 taxa of the genus Mimosa, specifically the Dolentes-Brevipedes taxonomic complex, focusing on micromorphology, type, shape, and density of trichomes. Within the nonglandular trichomes we described 3 types of nonbranched and 2 types of branched trichomes. We also described 2 types of stalked glandular trichomes, extending the recent classifications of trichomes in Mimosa. Multiseriate trichomes with lateral projections, which resemble incipient branching, are described here for many taxa. Astragalus unalii Çeçen, Aytaç and Mısırdalı, sp. Nov. (Fabaceae, sect. Malacothrix Bunge) is described as a new species from Karadağ (Karaman Province) in southern Anatolia and compared with its relatives growing in steppe vegetation. The new species is close to A. Tauricola Boiss. And A. Adiyamanensis Podlech and M.Ekici, endemic and growing in central and southern parts of Anatolia, Turkey. Taxonomic descriptions, pollen and seed characters, and geographical distribution of the new species are presented.

Three taxa of the genus Psoralea L. growing naturally in Turkey and the outgroup taxa belonging to the closest genera Vicia L., Cicer L., and Astragalus L. were subjected to molecular and quantitative morphological analyses in order to characterize their phylogenetic relationships. Both the taxonomical and the molecular characteristics of the tribes Psoraleeae (Bituminaria Heist. ex Fabr., Cullen Medik.), Vicieae (Vicia), Astragalae (Astragalus), and Cicereae (Cicer) were clearly revealed for the first time with the inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) method. Taxonomic Revision Of Astragalus L. Section Onobrychoidei Dc. (Fabaceae) In Turkey, Murat Eki̇ci̇, Hasan Akan, Zeki̇ Aytaç

This study concerned the taxonomic revision of Astragalus L. Section Onobrychoidei DC in Turkey. The morphological, cytological, and phenological characteristics of 29 species in this section are discussed. Moreover, 11 names at specific levels are reduced to synonymy: Astragalus eskishehiricus, A. Hololeucoides, A. Sakaryaensis, A. Phanothrix, A. Canescens, A. Robertianus, A. Rausianus, A. Tunceliensis, A. Pseudovegetus, A. Bingoellensis, and A. Bithynicus. The conservation statuses based on the IUCN Red List categories are mentioned for endemic taxa.

The phylogeny of Astragalus L. section Anthylloidei DC. and its interrelationship with allies were examined. The study was conducted using nrDNA ITS and plastid rpl32-trnL_{(UAG)} sequences. Astragalus sect. Anthylloidei is nonmonophyletic, and its members are scattered across the tree in 4 well-supported clades and intermixed with members of other spiny sections. All the multispecific informal groups of the section, with the exception of A. murinus Boiss. group, are not monophyletic. Morphological character evolution was mapped on the molecular tree. Our results suggest that morphology cannot elucidate infrageneric relationships in spiny Astragalus accurately; analyzed characters have evolved several times in sect. …

Onobrychis alamutensis Amirah., Kaz. Osaloo & Charkhch. is described as a new species. It is restricted to the northwestern Alborz mountain range in Rudbar-Alamut, Qazvin, Iran. The diagnostic characters and relevant description of the species are given. The new species is distinguished from its closely related taxa, Onobrychis verae Sirj., O. ptychophylla Sirj. & Rech.f., and O. sosnowskyi Grossh. in both morphological and molecular evidence (nrDNA ITS sequences). The distribution map and an illustration of the new species are also provided.

The pollen size and morphology of 20 Onobrychis Adans. taxa from Turkey were studied using both light and scanning electron microscopy. Of the taxa studied, Onobrychis fallax Freyn & Sint. and Onobrychis elata Boiss. & Balansa showed the smallest size of pollen grains, while the largest were found in Onobrychis aequidentata (Sibth. & Sm.) d'Urv. and Onobrychis viciifolia Scop. According to the recent literature, the genus had 13 taxa in Turkey; however, at the end of our studies the number was reduced to 11. Astragalus yukselii Karaman & Aytaç (Leguminosae) is described as a new species and illustrated. The species is distributed near the town of Hadim in Konya Province (South Anatolia). Diagnostic morphological characters useful in discriminating the new species from its close relatives, A. isauricus Hub.-Mor. & V.A.Matthews and A. karjaginii (Boriss.) Boriss., are explained. Both species clearly belong to Astragalus L. sect. Macrophyllium Boiss., which is characterised by large leaves and flowers. We also present some notes on the ecology, biogeography, and conservation status of the new species.

Results about a phylogenetic analysis of the genus Onobrychis Mill., tribe Hedysareae DC. are presented. The systematic knowledge of tribe Hedysareae is still incomplete, with difficult circumscription of genera and species. Analyses were undertaken using both nuclear (ITS) and chloroplast (matK) markers for a set of 78 accessions covering 41 Onobrychis species, besides previously sequenced Hedysareae accessions. The phylogenetic methods used were maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood, and Bayesian analyses to produce phylogenetic trees and robustness indices. Ultrastructural Changes In The Root Tip And Leaf Cells Of Lens Culinaris Treated With Fluazifop-P-Butyl, Özlem Aksoy, Feruzan Dane

In this study, ultrastructural changes in root tip cells and leaf cells of lentil plants treated with 4 different concentrations (0.25%, 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5%) of the herbicide fluazifop-p-butyl (FPB) were determined. The experiments were performed with light and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and the chlorophyll content of the leaves was determined using spectrophotometric methods. The effect of FPB included alterations in cell walls, nuclei, plastids, cuticle, and epidermis.
