A New Achillea (Asteraceae) Species From Southwestern Turkey, Gürkan Semi̇z, Tuna Uysal, Meryem Bozkurt, Batikan Günal

Achillea alimeana Semiz & Uysal sp. nov. of sect. Santolinoidea DC. (Asteraceae), was described, diagnosed and illustrated as a new species. It was collected from Akdağ Mountains in Denizli Province. In this paper, the diagnostic characters of A. alimeana and its similar species were discussed in the morphological, palynological and molecular findings. As regards the new species, some notes on the ecology, conservation status, and distribution were submitted. A diagnostic key was given for related taxa.

Palynological characters of 20 taxa belonging to the Turkish subgenus Cyanus were studied in details using light and scanning electron microscopy. Pollen grains of the subgenus Cyanus were tricolporate or syncolporate, subprolate or prolate-spheroidal, 26.15 to 53 µm in polar size, 22.84 to 46.86 µm in equatorial size, isopolar, and radially symmetrical. The only type of pollen grain ornamentation observed was scabrate-perforate. Principal component analysis and cluster analysis were performed to investigate the relationships of the studied Cyanus taxa. Anthemis ekicii (Asteraceae) is described and illustrated as a new species from Tuz Lake in Aksaray Province in Central Anatolia. The new species belongs to the section Anthemis, and it is closely related to A. pauciloba var. pauciloba, from which it differs in stem, leaves, and capitulum features. Diagnostic characters, description, detailed illustrations, ecology, IUCN conservation status, and pollen and seed morphology are presented in this study.

Onopordum nezaketianum sp. nov. (Asteraceae: Cardueae) from the Central Anatolia region of Turkey is described based on morphological and palynological features. The new species is morphologically related to O. davisii Rech. f. and O. turcicum Danin, and is characterized by its capitula solitary or 2?4 on leafy 2?20 cm long peduncles, phyllaries 5?6 seriate, outer phyllaries sparsely arachnoid pubescent, ovate?lanceolate, flat or nearly reflexed; median phyllaries sparsely arachnoid pubescent, narrowly ovate?lanceolate, reflexed; inner phyllaries glabrous, linear?lanceolate, erect, flowers 20?25 mm; 4 corolla lobes equal, 4?5 mm long, and 5th lobe 6?7 mm long, pappus barbellate. Twenty-two taxa of the genus Cota J.Gay (Asteraceae) from Turkey were examined with a stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope (SEM) in order to describe their achene macro- and micromorphologies and to evaluate the diagnostic value of these features. The achenes are obpyramidal, obconical, and oblong. Achene width ranges from 0.26 to 1.68 mm and achene length from 1.13 to 3.46 mm. They show variation in color: brown, dark brown, grayish-brown, reddish-brown, purplish-brown, black, and purplish. Systematics Value Of Micromorphological And Palynological Characters In Stenocephalum Sch.Bip. (Vernonieae, Asteraceae), Maria Betiana Angulo, Laura Chalup, Massimiliano Dematteis

Micromorphological and palynological characters of all Stenocephalum Sch.Bip. species (Vernonieae, Asteraceae) were analyzed to evaluate their reliability as taxonomic markers at generic level and discussed in relation to other genera of the subtribe Lepidaploinae. Characters such as pubescence of corollas and cypselae showed glandular and nonglandular trichomes allowing differentiation among related species. Apical appendages without glandular trichomes, caudate anthers, and carpopodium structure are common characteristics among Stenocephalum species. With the exceptions of S. megapotamicum and S. tragiaefolium, almost all species of the genus showed style bases without basal nodes for the first time. Crystals on the fruits wall were also …

A new species, Cirsium bozkirensis H.Duman, Dirmenci & Tugay (Asteraceae), Cirsium sect. Epitrachys DC, is described from Konya Province, South Anatolia, Turkey. Diagnostic and morphological characteristics that distinguish it from allied species C. cephalotes Boiss. and C. pugnax Sommier & Levier. are provided. A description, distribution map, and taxonomic comments on the new species and allied species are given. SEM photograph about setae, stem indumentum, and achene of new and allied species are obtained and characters are discussed.

Two new Achillea species, Achillea adenii Aytaç & M.Ekici and Achillea baltai H.Duman & Aytaç sp. nov. of sect. Santolinoidea DC. (Asteraceae), are described and illustrated as new species. A. adenii grows at Babadağ in Muğla Province (southwestern Anatolia), while A. baltai grows at Aladağlar in Niğde Province. In this study, the members of the genus Cirsium Mill. sect. Cirsium (Asteraceae: Cardueae) in Turkey are revised. The species C. eliasianum Kit Tan & Sorger is regarded as a synonym of C. frickii Fisch. & C.A.Mey. The name C. alatum subsp. alatum was misapplied for C. elodes M.Bieb. and C. elodes was misapplied in Turkey for C. subinerme Fisch. & C.A.Mey. Pilosella ilgazensis Vladimirov, Coşkunçelebi & Kit Tan, a new diploid (2n = 2x = 18) species from Ilgaz Mountain National Park, North Anatolia, Turkey, is described and illustrated. It grows in subalpine grassland and open Juniperus sibirica Burgsd. communities. Pilosella ilgazensis is morphologically intermediate between P. alpicola s.l., from the high mountains of Central and Southeast Europe, and the Euro-Asiatic Pilosella echioides s.l. The relationship of the species with other similar taxa is discussed. In this study, Tanacetum erzincanense Korkmaz, Kandemir & İlhan is described as a new species for science from Erzincan Province. It was compared with close species by using morphological and random amplified polymorphic DNA data. It resembles T. germanicopolitanum (Bornm. & Heimerl) Grierson and T. pinnatum Boiss. It is closer to T. germanicopolitanum in terms of genetic and morphological aspects. Morphologically, it differs from T. germanicopolitanum by having oblong-oblanceolate basal leaves in outline with flabelliform and fewer leaf segments, less dense indumentum, smaller and globose capitula, and shorter apical appendage in inner phyllaries. Onopordum hasankeyfense Pınar & Behçet (Asteraceae: Cardueae) from south-eastern Anatolia, Turkey, is described. This species grows on the rocky slopes beneath the Hasankeyf castle in the Hasankeyf District (C8, Batman province). Morphologically, the new species is related to Onopordum anatolicum (Boiss.) Boiss. & Heldr. ex Eig, a species endemic to central and western Anatolia, and O. acanthium L. The new species Inula tuzgoluensis M.Öztürk & O.Çetin (Asteraceae) is described from Central Turkey. The species grows on salty marshes, in the Cihanbeyli District of Konya Province. Inula tuzgoluensis, an endemic confined to Central Anatolia, is related to I. aucheriana DC. The new species is distinct from the closely allied I. aucheriana by habitus, indumentums, leaves, flowers, pollen grains, and achenes. Photos of the new species are provided. Echinops ritrodes Bunge, E. gaillardotii Boiss., E. adenocaulos Boiss., E. chardinii Boiss. & Buhse, and E. tenuisectus Rech.f. were recorded for the first time in Turkey. The taxa are described and illustrated. Geographical distributions of the taxa are also mapped, and IUCN threat categories of the populations are discussed.

Scorzonera zorkunensis Coskuncelebi & S.Makbul (Asteraceae) is described and illustrated from Turkey. It grows on serpentine in alpine steppe vegetation together with several endemic Scorzonera L. species in southern Anatolia at altitudes of 2075-2100 m. It is morphologically similar to S. pisidica Hub.-Mor., but it differs in its habit and stem and leaf pubescence. Additionally, the size and micromorphological characters of the achenes and some anatomical traits of the leaves, stems, and roots are helpful in distinguishing these closely related taxa. A New Genus, Turanecio, Of The Asteraceae (Tribe Senecioneae), Ergi̇n Hamzaoğlu, Ümi̇t Budak, Ahmet Aksoy

Turanecio Hamzaoğlu, a new genus of the Asteraceae, is described. Ten species are included, previously referred to Senecio L., Cineraria L., or Iranecio B.Nord. This genus belongs to the "Quadridentate Group" of the subtribe Senecioninae, because of the 4-lobed disc florets. The new genus closely resembles Dolichorrhiza (Pojark.) Galushko, but differs by the thickish rhizome, the short-sagittate anther bases, the style branches with papillate lower surface, and in possessing a persistent pappus. Turanecio is centred in Turkey, with species in the Caucasus, Iran, and Iraq.

Echinops dumanii C.Vural is described and illustrated from Adana province, South Anatolia, Turkey. It is considered to be endemic to Turkey. The morphological differences from the closely related species Echinops phaeocephalus Hand.-Mazz. are discussed. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) threat category and observations on the ecology of the populations are noted. The geographical distribution of the new species is mapped.

Centaurea L. (Asteraceae) is one of the largest genera in Turkey. The chromosome number and morphology of 8 taxa belonging to the genus Centaurea were investigated using an image analysis system. Among these taxa, the chromosome numbers were as follows: 2n = 18 in C. cariensis Boiss. subsp. niveotomentosa (Hub.-Mor.) This study presents the taxonomy and threatened categories of 3 Achillea L. (Asteraceae-Anthemideae) species: A. membranacea (Labill.) DC., A. brachyphylla Boiss. & Hausskn., and A. boissieri Hausskn. ex Boiss. These species belong to sect. Babounya (DC.) O.Hoffm. and were previously placed in the data deficient (DD) category in the Red Data Book of Turkish Plants. Descriptions, localities, distribution map, and images of the species are given. Threatened categories of the species were determined as A. membranacea in VU, and A. brachyphylla and A. boissieri in EN.

Ambrosia tenuifolia Spreng. (Compositae) is a new addition to the flora of Turkey from Malatya (in the East Anatolia region). The specimens collected from Malatya have different properties from the known diagnostic characteristics of the species. A. tenuifolia is a monoecious plant without glands. Its female capitula are in the axils of the upper leaves in its original description, but some of our specimens have only female capitula (female capitula in terminal racemes and lower parts of the racemes bracteate, but upper parts ebracteate) and there are many glands particularly on the tops of their fruits. Additional Records Of Hieracium L. And Pilosella Hill (Compositae: Lactuceae) For The Flora Of Turkey, Kami̇l Coşkunçelebi̇, Osman Beyazoğlu

A further collection of Hieracium L. and Pilosella Hill (Compositae) from NE Anatolia is presented here. In addition to the 32 second records, 7 new records of the genus Hieracium (H. pseudosvaneticum Peter s.l., H. biebersteinii Litw. & Zahn, H. callichlorum Litw. & Zahn, H. camkorijense Zahn s.l.) and Pilosella (P. brachiata (Bertol. & DC.) F.W.Schultz & Sch. Bip, P. fennica (Norrl.) Norrl. em. Soják, P. procera (Fr.) F.W.Schultz & Sch. Bip.) are established for Anatolia in this study.
