A Phylogenetic Analysis And Delimitation Of Turanecio (Asteraceae: Senecioneae), Meryem Bozkurt, Tuna Uysal, Ergi̇n Hamzaoğlu

Turkish Journal of Botany

Recently, Turanecio Hamzaoğlu was described as a new genus for the scientific world. Turanecio has been distributed as far as Asia, Iran, Caucasus, and Iraq. A phylogenetic analysis based on nrDNA and cpDNA gene regions was performed to determine the position of the genus within the subtribe Adenostylinae. Results from Bayesian and parsimony analyses of the nuclear and chloroplast DNA regions of the subtribe Senecioninae concordantly indicated that it is monophyletic and belongs to the Quadridentate group, with 4-lobed disc flowers. Nuclear DNA data revealed that some of the researched taxa should be transferred to Turanecio and some taxonomical classifications …

Pollen Morphology Of Some Tanacetum L. (Asteraceae) Taxa And Its Systematic Value, Murat Kurşat, İsmai̇l Çelti̇k, Bi̇rol Başer, Fahretti̇n Özbey, İrfan Emre

Turkish Journal of Botany

Pollen grains of 24 Tanacetum taxa from Türkiye were examined by light (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Detailed pollen morphological characteristics are provided for these taxa. According to the 24 analyzed taxa, T. parthenifolium has the smallest pollen grains, and T. aurem var. aurem possesses the largest ones. The basic shape of the pollen grains in most taxa is oblatespheroidal. However, suboblate pollen grains are recorded for T. balsamitoides, T. aurem var. aurem, and T. tomentellum. The polar axis ranges from 16.56 to 26.14 µm, and the equatorial diameter ranges from 17.64 to 30.12 µm in this study. …

Tanacetum Isfahanicum (Compositae-Anthemideae), A New Species From Iran And Its Phylogenetic Position Based On Nrdna Its Data, Maryam Naderifar, Ali Sonboli, Shahrokh Kazempour Osaloo

Turkish Journal of Botany

Tanacetum isfahanicum Sonboli and Naderifar (Compositae-Anthemideae) is described as a new species from Isfahan and Fars provinces of Iran. It belongs morphologically to Tanacetum sect Xanthoglossa and differs from its the closest relative, T. polycephalum, by shape of basal and cauline leaves, shape of capitula, length and width of involucre and color of achene ribs. The phylogenetic position of the new species within the genus Tanacetum is established based on nrDNA ITS sequences variation and its close relationship with T. polycephalum is corroborated.

The Chromosomal Evolution And Analyses Of Turkish Cousinia Species, Tuna Uysal, Osman Tugay, Kuddi̇si̇ Ertuğrul, Meryem Bozkurt, Deni̇z Ulukuş, Hakki Demi̇relma

Turkish Journal of Botany

In this study, Turkish Cousinia species were examined in point of chromosome number and morphology. To our knowledge, this work is the first comprehensive chromosomal study regarding Turkish Cousinia as a whole, especially for endemics. As consistent with previous reports, the chromosome numbers are mostly 2n = 26 and have been determined also as 2n = 24 for only the members of Cynaroideae and Sphaerocephalae sections. An interesting result of this paper is that there is not any polyploid species in this taxonomic group and all of them are diploids. Concerning the chromosome evolution of the Cousinia species, we concluded …

Turkish Journal of Botany

Centaurea uysalii Şirin & Çeçen, a new Asteraceae species from the province of Karaman, in Turkey, is described and illustrated herein. It is morphologically similar to C. bourgaei Boiss. (Subgen. The achene micromorphological features and karyomorphology of C. uysalii and C. bourgaei were examined in this study. The IUCN conservation status is the Critically Endangered [CR B2 a b (i, iii)] category.

Turkish Journal of Botany

In this study, the achene surfaces of 31 taxa belonging to the genus Centaurea L. Were examined in detail by means of electron microscopy. The main aim of this study was to characterize the microsculpture of the achene surface of the Turkish species of Centaurea sect. Acrolophus (Cass.) DC. (Asteraceae). Detailed descriptions of the achene surface were given for each taxon and a fruitful dendrogram was established by numerical analyses derived from the determined micromorphological features. The relationships among the taxa studied were briefly assessed using this generated dendrogram. The results indicated that the examined taxa had very high variations …

The plant materials were collected from different natural populations of Turkey between 2005 and 2011. The classification of chromosomes, the length of the long and short arm, haploid chromosome length, arm ratio, and relative chromosomal length were measured by software image analyses. The basic chromosome numbers were determined as x = 6 and x = 7. Two types of ploidy levels were observed as diploidy and tetraploidy. Karyotype asymmetry indices, TF%, As K%, Syi, Rec, A, A1, and A2 were also …

Relationships And Generic Delimitation Of Eurasian Genera Of The Subtribe Asterinae (Astereae, Asteraceae) Using Molecular Phylogeny Of Its, Elena Korolyuk, Alexey Makunin, Tatiana Matveeva

Turkish Journal of Botany

The subtribe Asterinae (Astereae, Asteraceae) includes highly variable, often polyploid species. Recent findings based on molecular methods led to revision of its volume. However, most of these studies lacked species from Eurasia, where a lot of previous taxonomic treatments of the subtribe exist. In this study we used molecular phylogenetics methods with internal transcribed spacer (ITS) as a marker to resolve evolutionary relations between representatives of the subtribe Asterinae from Siberia, Kazakhstan, and the European part of Russia. Our reconstruction revealed that a clade including all Asterinae species is paraphyletic. Inside this clade, there are species with unresolved basal positions, …

A Taxonomic Reassessment Of The Tanacetum Aureum (Asteraceae, Anthemideae) Species Group: Insights From Morphological And Molecular Data, Marzie Kazemi, Ali Sonboli, Hassan Zare Maivan, Shahrokh Kazempour Osaloo

Turkish Journal of Botany

A taxonomic reassessment of the Tanacetum aureum (Lam.) Greuter, M.V.Agab. & Wagenitz (Asteraceae, Anthemideae) species group was performed. This group of species is distinguished by herbaceous perennial habit, (1-)2-10(-80) disciform capitula, with compact to lax corymbs and strongly to moderately convex receptacle. A multivariate statistical analysis of 58 morphological characters using Ward cluster, principal component analyses, and molecular phylogenetic analyses of nrDNA ITS and cpDNA rpL32-trnL^{(UAG)} + ndhF-rpL32 spacer sequence datasets were conducted. Both datasets corroborated that T. aureum, T. oligocephalum (DC.) Sch.Bip., and T. heimerlii (Nabelek) Parsa could be differentiated as separate species. An identification key of the studied …
