Trichome Micromorphology And Its Significance In The Systematics Of Convolvulus L. (Convolvulaceae), Elham Roudi, Hamed Khodayari, Valiollah Mozaffarian, Shahin Zarre

Turkish Journal of Botany

Trichomes of 35 species of the genus Convolovulus and one species of the genus Calystegia (C. sepium) were investigated using light and scanning electron microscopy. The trichomes show a great variation, which provides valuable data for sections and species delimitation in Convolvulus. Trichomes of Convolvulus are nonglandular, simple, and basifixed or rarely asymmetrically medifixed. Characters of taxonomic interest were the degree of curviness (straight to spiral), orientation relative to the epidermal surface (appressed to erect), and presence of papillae on trichome surface. The trichomes are divided into two basic types: cylindrical and flattened ribbon-like. Our data provide the additional evidence …

Notes On The Genus Sauvetrea (Orchidaceae, Maxillariinae), With A Description Of A New Species, Dariusz L. Szlachetko, Natalia Oledrzynska, Monika M. Lipinska

Turkish Journal of Botany

The genus Sauvetrea Szlach. (Orchidaceae) was segregated from Maxillaria sensu lato in 2007. It embraces a group of from 10 to nearly 20 species, all initially defined as Maxillaria sect. Trigonae. Sauvetrea can be easily distinguished from closely related Rhetinantha M.A.Blanco by the lip callus. During the revision of the materials stored in AMES we came across specimens collected by Vargas in Peru, which were initially identified by Schweinfurth as Maxillaria brachypetala Schltr. We compared Vargas's discovery with the protologue of the latter species and other Sauvetrea, but it does not fit the description of any genus representatives known so …

Critical Notes On Draconanthes Aberrans (Orchidaceae, Pleurothallidinae) With Description Of New Species, Marta Kolanowska, Slawomir Nowak, Dariusz Szlachetko

Turkish Journal of Botany

The actual variation and specific diversity of Neotropical Draconanthes aberrans is evaluated based on morphological data. As recognized in this paper D.aberrans complex includes a total of 6 species, 3 of which are described here. New combinations are proposed for Lepanthes prionota and L. trachysepala. Two species, including D. aberrans, are lectotypified. The previous incorrect typifications are discussed. Each of 6 species is morphologically characterized. The perianth segments of all discussed taxa are illustrated. The key to identification of species belonging to the Draconanthes aberrans complex is presented together with the comparative morphology of studied taxa.

Comparative Anatomical Studies In Relation To Taxonomy Of Sedum S.L. (Crassulaceae) In Iran, Maryam Mohammadi Shahrestani, Marzieh Beygom Faghir, Mostafa Assadi

Turkish Journal of Botany

This study aimed to characterize the stem, peduncle, and leaf anatomy of 22 species of Sedum senso lato distributed in Iran. The results showed that the presence of tanniniferous storage cells in stems and leaves, distinct xylem vessels in stems, and the shape of peduncle cross sections, were taxonomically informative evidence, and isolated Phedimus from the other studied taxa of Sedum s.l. , whereas hairy leaves and peduncles containing starch storage cells were identified as Prometheum and Hylotelephium respectively. In addition, the current anatomical evidence confirmed the alliance of 2 sections of Sedum and Epeteium within Sedum sensu stricto. The …

An Attempt To Solve The Taxonomic Confusion Of Thlaspiceras F.K.Mey. Complex (Noccaea Moench-Brassicaceae) With Issrs, Kurtuluş Özgi̇şi̇, Ati̇la Ocak, Burcu Tarikahya Hacioğlu

Turkish Journal of Botany

Meyer separated Thlaspi into 12 genera, specifically using the seed-coat anatomy. Currently, only 4 species have been retained in Thlaspi s.str and all of the other species were divided into other genera, one of which was Thlaspiceras F.K.Mey.. Based on recent molecular studies and morphological features, Al-Shehbaz (2014) suggested recognizing all of Meyer?s segregates under Noccaea and Thlaspi s.str. All of Meyer?s Thlaspiceras species, namely Th. dolichocarpum (Zohary) F.K.Mey.,Th. eigii (Zohary) F.K.Mey., Th. crassifolium A.Huber-Morath andF.K.Mey., Th. bovis F.K.Mey., Th. oxyceras (Boiss.) F.K.Mey., Th. capricornutum F.K.Mey., Th. hubermorathii F.K.Mey., Th. cappadocicum (Boiss. and Balansa) F.K.Mey., Th. triangulare F.K.Mey., Th. rechingeri …

Two New Hybrid Species Of Salvia (S. × Karamanensis And S. × Doganii) From Turkey: Evidence From Molecular And Morphological Studies, Ferhat Celep, Emma Raders, Bryan Drew

Turkish Journal of Botany

Salvia L. is an ideal exemplar to demonstrate prezygotic isolation mechanisms in sympatric populations due to their wellknown staminal lever mechanism. Mechanical, phenological, and ethological isolation mechanisms have been reported among sympatric species of Salvia. However, it has been shown that if closely related species are sympatric and flower at the same time, they can potentially hybridize. In this study, we describe two new hybrid species of Salvia (S. × karamanensis Celep & B.T.Drew, and S. × doganii Celep & B.T.Drew) from Turkey based on morphological and molecular evidence. Salvia × karamanensis (S. aucheri Benth. subsp. canescens (Boiss. & Heldr.) …
