Mastitis is a contagious disease that causes significant milk loss and serious economic damage in dairy animals. Streptococcus agalactiae causes clinical and subclinical mastitis in animals and infections in humans, especially adults, and newborns. This study aimed to confirm the identification of S. agalactiae isolates by PCR in buffalo milk; to determine the antibiotic resistance and virulence genes by multiplex PCR. The material of this study consisted of 30 (12%) S. agalactiae strains identified by phenotypic, biochemical, and PCR methods (rRNA-16S) from 250 isolates with bacterial growth from milk samples of buffaloes with mastitis. In addition, the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion …

Isolation Of Multidrug Resistant Coliforms And Their Bacteriophages From Swine Slurry, Adrian Augustyniak, Bartlomiej Grygorcewicz, Pawe? Nawrotek Jan 2018

Isolation Of Multidrug Resistant Coliforms And Their Bacteriophages From Swine Slurry, Adrian Augustyniak, Bartlomiej Grygorcewicz, Pawe? Nawrotek

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Slurry management is a contemporary agricultural problem. Although liquid manure is a valuable fertiliser, it may pose a microbiological threat due to spreading of bacteria resistant to various antibiotics. Fermentation has been proposed as a solution to this problem, although it does not fully eliminate the antibiotic-resistant strains. The presence of gram-negative rods resistant to antimicrobials may cause an uncontrolled transmission of resistance factors and genes in the natural environment. Therefore, a biocontrol system is necessary to prevent this phenomenon. The aim of this study was to detect multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria and their lytic bacteriophages in raw swine slurry. For …

Antibiotic resistance/susceptibility testing of the isolated and identified enterococci was performed by using the disk diffusion test. Multiplex PCR was used to identify the species and to detect vancomycin resistance genes. The majority of the isolated enterococci was Enterococcus faecium (60.43%, n = 142) and Enterococcus faecalis (33.62%, …
