The Effect Of Dorsal Rhizotomy On Renal Sodium Excretion Following Dorsal Spinal Stimulation, Tanko Tijani Ahmed
The Effect Of Dorsal Rhizotomy On Renal Sodium Excretion Following Dorsal Spinal Stimulation, Tanko Tijani Ahmed
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
Hypertension is one of the most common risk factors in the development of heart disease, stroke and end stage renal failure. Sympathetic overactivity is believed to be one of the main mechanism behind resistant hypertension. Renal denervation has been used to treat resistant hypertension, although this procedure is an invasive one. Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is a known modality to treat ischemic pain, angina pectoris, and peripheral vascular diseases. In previous studies in this laboratory, unilateral spinal cord stimulation in spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) at 67% of the motor threshold increased urinary sodium and water excretion significantly, without affecting mean …
Elderly Patient Adherence To Ocular Pharmaceuticals; Impact Of Educational And Physical Barriers, Lucky Wagner
Elderly Patient Adherence To Ocular Pharmaceuticals; Impact Of Educational And Physical Barriers, Lucky Wagner
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
The purpose of this research was to assess and evaluate elderly patient's attitudes and behavior regarding educational and physical barriers and the impact on adherence to ocular pharmaceuticals. A 19 question survey was developed and in order to collect data. The survey was administered in person at the Edina Senior Center and the Burnsville Senior Center and online via Zoomerang survey software regarding elderly patient attitudes on educational and physical barriers and their impact on ocular pharmaceutical adherence. Findings from this study indicate elderly patients treating an ocular condition with ocular pharmaceuticals expressed strong agreement with improving upon both educational …
Localization And Expression Level Of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor After Partial Hepatectomy Of Wky Rats, Adam Kronebusch, Tyler Koonst
Localization And Expression Level Of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor After Partial Hepatectomy Of Wky Rats, Adam Kronebusch, Tyler Koonst
Undergraduate Research Symposium
Inflammation and fibrosis are indicative of liver regeneration following injury and chronic liver diseases, such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The formation of new vasculature via the process of angiogenesis is vital to the pathological progression of liver regeneration and these diseases. Thus, inhibiting the process of angiogenesis could have the potential to stop or slow the progression of chronic liver diseases. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is the most potent and specific growth factor for initiating the process of angiogenesis, making it a prime target to inhibit angiogenesis. Bevacizumab is an antibody that binds to VEGF, inhibiting it from …
Cochlear Development And Auditory Function In The Absence Of Thyroid Hormone Transporters Mct8 And Oatp1c1, Richard Sinn
Cochlear Development And Auditory Function In The Absence Of Thyroid Hormone Transporters Mct8 And Oatp1c1, Richard Sinn
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
Thyroid hormone (TH) is essential for the development and maturation of the nervous system. The thyroid gland secretes an active form of TH, triiodothyronine, and a prohormone, thyroxine, into the blood. TH is charged, which prevents it from passively diffusing across cell membranes and thus requires cell membrane transporters to facilitate its movement into and out of cells. However, whether TH transporters are required for TH-mediated developmental events, including the auditory system, is largely unknown.
The purpose of the present study was to investigate two specific TH transporters, monocarboxylate transporter 8 (Mct8) and organic anion transporting polypeptide 1c1 (Oatp1c1), and …
