The purpose of this project was to evaluate current conditions of estuarine shorelines in the northern section of the Indian River Lagoon system, including Mosquito Lagoon, north Indian River, and Banana River. From January 2016 through June 2018, we evaluated structural and functional characteristics of 374 miles of shoreline, from Ponce Inlet in Volusia County to Sebastian Inlet in Brevard County (11,000+ data points). Hard-armoring accounted for approximately 50% of total shoreline, evenly divided between shoreline with bulkheads (25%) and hardened slopes (25%). Stable isotope measurements were performed on Cibicidoides spp. The dataset contains the sediment core information such as location, date, and depth; and benthic foraminiferal stable carbon and oxygen isotopes. Sediment cores were collected on multiple cruises from 2010-06-13 to 2017-07-19.

This dataset includes baseline assemblage measurements from benthic foraminifera throughout the Gulf of Mexico. The dataset is a compilation of seafloor surface benthic foraminifera assemblages from sediment cores collected on multiple cruises and field sampling in the Gulf of Mexico from 2010-11-18 to 2017-05-22. The dataset contains the Gulf-wide diversity indices and the full benthic taxonomic counts for two regions: Cuba and the southern Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf-wide file contains the total density and diversity calculations using Fisher’s Alpha and Shannon indices from the surface-most sub-sample from each core (typically 0-2 mm). This dataset includes data used in the publication Smith and Kaufman (2018), Progress in Oceanography, which examines the temporal and spatial distributions of nutrients and particulate matter in the Ross Sea continental Shelf using cruise-based observations, and compares the resulting annual productivity estimates with previously reported satellite-based estimates. Specifically, these data represent distributions of nutrients, chlorophyll, particulate organic carbon, particulate organic nitrogen, and biogenic silica that were compiled from 42 cruises (from 1967 - 2016) to the Ross Sea continental shelf to generate a comprehensive climatological dataset for November, December, January, and February. Dataset For: Tracking An Oil Tanker Collision And Spilled Oils In The East China Sea Using Multisensor Day And Night Satellite Imagery, Shaojie Sun

In this dataset, we used a multi-sensor day and night satellite approach to track the SANCHI oil tanker collision and oil spill event in January 2018 in the East China Sea. The drifted on fire oil tanker was tracked by Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Nightfire product and Day/Night Band (DNB) imagery. Such pathway and locations were also reproduced with a numerical model, with RMS error of < 15 km. MultiSpectral Instrument (MSI) optical imagery during daytime shows smokes on 13 January 2018, further confirms the drifted tanker location. MSI imagery after 4 days of the tanker’s sinking (18 January 2018) reveals oil on the ocean surface to the east and northeast of the tanker sinking location. This combination of all available remote sensing and modeling techniques can provide effective means to monitor marine accidents and oil spills to assist event response.

Seawater was collected and filtered for microbiome and bacterioplankton sequencing and analyses at various depths during planned DEEPEND cruise expeditions to the GOM in 2016. Filters were stored and then processed for total environmental genomic DNA according to standard methods (see earthmicrobiome.org). 16S rRNA amplicon libraries covering the V4 hypervariable regions were generated with universal PCR primers and then sequenced on an Illumina MiSeq DNA sequencing platform. Raw paired-end sequences were joined and quality filtered in the bioinformatics program, QIIME. We conducted 1000 Atlantis simulations, using permutated diet matrices created by drawing from a beta distribution that represented uncertainty in predator diet. We also employed a statistical emulator which simulates the production of many more Atlantis runs than could be achieved through numerical simulation. The species examined in this study include: Anoplogaster cornuta, Chauliodus sloani, Coccorella atlantica, Gigantura chuni, Gigantura indica, Omosudis lowii, Photostomias guernei, and Stomias affinis. Coastal development is contributing to ongoing declines of ecosystems globally. Consequently, understanding the risks posed to these systems, and how they respond to successive disturbances, is paramount for their improved management. We study the cumulative impacts of maintenance dredging on seagrass ecosystems as a canonical example. Maintenance dredging causes disturbances lasting weeks to months, often repeated at yearly intervals. We present a risk-based modelling framework for time varying complex systems centred around a dynamic Bayesian network (DBN). Aim: The aim was to quantify latitudinal patterns in seagrass–herbivore interactions in the context of a warming climate. Location: We carried out a global meta‐analysis combined with a field experiment across 1,700 km and 12° of latitude in Western Australia. Time period: 1984–2014. Major taxa studied: Seagrasses.
