The Transfer Of Motor Skill Practice To The Game: A Review Of Transfer Of Learning Theory And Applications, Silver Dawson
The Transfer Of Motor Skill Practice To The Game: A Review Of Transfer Of Learning Theory And Applications, Silver Dawson
Honors Theses
Abstract
Transfer of learning from practice to competition is a prevalent issue that needs the assistance of professionals in motor behavior and coaching education. This review provides a theoretical and applied overview of transfer of learning and practice design. Lacking the appropriate knowledge and skillset to create an effective practice design does not have to be common for coaches. Athletes and coaches need more evidence of transfer of learning behind their practice design and assessment. This research review gives support to theories and concepts like Fitts and Posner's stages of learning, specificity of learning, schema theory, verbal cues augmented feedback, …

Impact Of Covid-19 On Physical Activity And Health Influences Among College Students, Rachael Larkin
Impact Of Covid-19 On Physical Activity And Health Influences Among College Students, Rachael Larkin
Honors Theses
Objective: To assess the associations between physical activity, subjective well-being (SWB), and social media influences before, during, and after the 2020 COVID-19 period among college-aged students. Participants: Male and female students from the University of Mississippi who were between the ages of 18-25 volunteered to participate in this study. Out of 10,000 invitation emails distributed, a total of 290 individuals responded and were used for the subsequent analysis. Results: Almost half of the respondents (46.1%) noted a decrease in physical activity from before March-May (M-M) 2020 to during M-M 2020. In addition, 41% of the respondents reported an increase in …
Retrospective Analysis Of Injuries And Persisting Injury Effects Among Students Who Have Participated In Club Sports And Intramural Activities During The Prior Year, Daylia Wallace
Honors Theses
Research suggests that previous injury and history of sport-related concussion place athletes at a greater risk for subsequent injury. The primary purpose of this study was to assess the validity of self-perceived wellness and performance capabilities survey responses for retrospective classification of the injury risk status of individual athletes as a means to estimate risk magnitude for intramural and club sport athletes. The surveys used to collect this data were the Sport Fitness Index (SFI), Overall Wellness Index (OWI), Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Survey (DASS), and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The SFI was a strong discriminator (AUC= .728) …
Implementation Evaluation Of Blood Flow Restriction In The Clinical Setting, Madison Mccall
Implementation Evaluation Of Blood Flow Restriction In The Clinical Setting, Madison Mccall
Honors Theses
Blood flow restriction (BFR) refers to a relatively new training/rehabilitation method consisting of a tourniquet system applied to a limb to partially inhibit blood flow to the muscles distal to the tourniquet. Though much research has been conducted concerning its use, there is little information addressing why clinicians may or may not implement it. Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) theory explains how a product or idea can spread to specific population groups, ending in adoption of it. The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) consists of a set of constructs which can be used to determine the specific factors involved in …
Open Vs. Closed Skill Acute Exercise On Emotional Memory, Ashley Lovorn
Open Vs. Closed Skill Acute Exercise On Emotional Memory, Ashley Lovorn
Honors Theses
ABSTRACT ASHLEY LOVORN: Acute Open vs. Closed Skill Exercise on Emotional Memory (Under the direction of Dr. Paul D. Loprinzi)
Accumulating research suggests that acute exercise may influence emotional memory. However, there is limited research on this topic evaluating which modality of exercise elicits the greatest effects on emotional memory. The purpose of this thesis experiment was to evaluate if treadmill exercise (closed-skill) has a differential impact on emotional memory relative to racquetball exercise (open-skill). One-hundred and ninety- three participants were recruited and divided into three groups: closed-skill (N=65), open- skill (N=65) and control (N=64). Prior to exercise, each of …
Evaluation Of Whether Habitual Physical Activity Is Associated With An Attenuated Memory Interference Effect, Lilianne Belle Mckissack
Evaluation Of Whether Habitual Physical Activity Is Associated With An Attenuated Memory Interference Effect, Lilianne Belle Mckissack
Honors Theses
The relationship between exercise and memory is notable. Recently, there has been a sparked interest in studying the effects of exercise on attenuating memory interference. There have been several studies that have investigated whether acute exercise can attenuate memory interference. However, this thesis specifically studies the effects of habitual physical activity on attenuating the memory interference effect, which has been infrequently studied. One-hundred and nine young adults completed an online survey evaluating their physical activity behavior and memory interference, assessed via an AB/AC paradigm. We were effective in inducing proactive interference (p = .001), but physical activity was not …
