Effects Of A Pregnancy Lifestyle Intervention On Emotion Regulation In Infants Responding To A Toy Removal Task At One-Year Of Age, Mollie Manley May 2020

Effects Of A Pregnancy Lifestyle Intervention On Emotion Regulation In Infants Responding To A Toy Removal Task At One-Year Of Age, Mollie Manley

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Poor infant emotion regulation (ER) has been linked with increased psychopathological risk in infancy and childhood. The Developmental Origins of Health and Disease Hypothesis suggests the prenatal period as the earliest point of intervention, where fetal exposure to healthy lifestyle changes can promote optimal ER in infancy. Infant electroencephalography (EEG; n=13) and heart rate variability (HRV; n=18) were measured at rest and in response to a toy removal task, to determine the ER of infants whose mothers participated in a nutrition and exercise intervention during pregnancy. Results demonstrated positive left frontal alpha asymmetry at rest (0.08± 0.66) and in response …

Magnetic Field Frequency-Response For Human Magnetophosphene Perception And Associated Eeg Modulations, Cadence M. Baker Nov 2018

Magnetic Field Frequency-Response For Human Magnetophosphene Perception And Associated Eeg Modulations, Cadence M. Baker

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Background: Magnetophosphenes are among the most reliably reported effects resulting from magnetic induction. The frequency dependence of the perception threshold is crucial, as guideline agencies use this information to set exposure limits whose purpose is to protect public and workers.

Objective:Establish the magnetophosphene perception thresholds throughout the extremely low frequency range (0-300 Hz) and evaluate the use of EEG as a biomarker.

Hypothesis:Perception thresholds will be lowest at ~30 Hz. EEG occipital alpha power will decrease upon perception.

Methods:60 participants were exposed to homogenous magnetic fields up to 300 Hz, and 70 mT. EEG alpha power …

Electroencephalographic Correlates Of Spatial Attention Index The Degree Of Online Control In Goal-Directed Reaching, Ali Mulla Jun 2012

Electroencephalographic Correlates Of Spatial Attention Index The Degree Of Online Control In Goal-Directed Reaching, Ali Mulla

Goal-directed reaches performed with limb vision (i.e., closed-loop: CL) are more accurate than their limb occluded (i.e., open-loop: OL) counterparts. This finding is frequently attributed to the use of online limb vision to effect trajectory amendments. Notably, however, the central planning of CL and OL reaches may also influence trajectory control. To that end, I examined the behavioural and event-related brain potentials (ERP) of reaches in a target perturbation paradigm wherein information regarding the nature of response (CL or OL) was provided prior to response cuing. CL reaches exhibited earlier and more effective trajectory amendments than OL reaches. Moreover, CL …
