The problem of this study was designed to examine students at Saint Cloud State University that participated in individual and group exercise programs who were members of the fitness center and group fitness classes to determine to what extent motivation affected exercise choice.

A major portion of the review of literature focuses on motivation. The review also includes an examination of the health of the nation, individual and group exercise, exercise frequency, duration, and intensity, campus recreation centers, and self determination theory.

Happiness As A Function Of Exercise Training Impulse, Training Frequency And Age In Adults, Jeffrey C. John

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between happiness and three independent variables: training impulse (TRIMP), age and frequency of exercise. Measurement of each subject's happiness level was ascertained by the General Social Survey (GSS). This GSS happiness questionnaire is scored using a 1-10 rating scale. In this study TRIMP was defined as the product of the duration of training performed in one session and the perceived exertion during that exercise session. The respondents' exercise sessions ranged from no exercise to regularly scheduled exercise sessions ranging from 10-60+ minutes. In the past, recreation agencies defined their youth service mission as engaging children in fun and games. This mission involved keeping youth off the streets and out of trouble. However, expectations often were limited to opening facilities and hiring minimum wage, part-time employees to baby-sit the youth and facility. As programs have developed, and youth development professionals have acquired a more sophisticated understanding of the potential of youth programming, a new mission has evolved.
