Effect Of Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose (Na-Cmc) Added To Urea-Formaldehyde Resinon Particleboard Properties, Abdullah İstek, Azi̇z Bi̇çer, İsmai̇l Özlüsoylu

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study investigated the effect of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (Na-CMC) added to urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin on particleboard production and its effects on the properties of the boards. The Na-CMC/UF was prepared at the selected blending levels of 0/100, 5/95, 10/90, 15/85, 20/80, 25/75, 30/70, 35/65, 40/60, 45/55, and 50/50. In the production of test panels, 55% coniferous and 45% broadleaved wood chips were used. The physical and mechanical properties of the particleboard panels were determined and evaluated. According to the results, the addition of Na-CMC at the level of between 5% and 20% improved the internal bond (IB) strength by …

Properties Of Particleboard Produced With Liquefaction-Modified Phenol-Formaldehyde Adhesive, Jung-Uk Lee, Yong-Sung Oh Jan 2010

Properties Of Particleboard Produced With Liquefaction-Modified Phenol-Formaldehyde Adhesive, Jung-Uk Lee, Yong-Sung Oh

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Pinus densiflora wood flour was liquefied in the presence of phenol, using sulfuric acid as a catalyst. Liquefaction-modified phenol-formaldehyde (LPF) resins were synthesized as particleboard binder. The physical characteristics of the laboratory-synthesized control PF resin and the LPF resins are described. Laboratory particleboard (PB) was made using Korean hybrid poplar (Populus alba × glandulosa) particles with the control PF resin and LPF resins. The physical strength and dimensional stability of the PBs were tested according to ASTM D 1037-99 and KS F 3104 standard procedures. PB test results show that the physical and mechanical strength properties differed significantly according to …

Effects Of Mimosa Bark Usage On Some Properties Of Particleboard, Gökay Nemli̇, Gürsel Çolakoğlu Jan 2005

Effects Of Mimosa Bark Usage On Some Properties Of Particleboard, Gökay Nemli̇, Gürsel Çolakoğlu

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of mimosa bark usage on the formaldehyde emission, physical and mechanical properties of particleboard. Fifteen panels from black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) wood containing mimosa bark in a core layer at different ratios were manufactured. Three boards without bark addition were produced as control boards. Formaldehyde emission, modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity, internal bond strength and thickness swelling of the specimens were tested. It was found that panels made from black locust wood had the highest mechanical properties while panels containing mimosa bark had the lowest. Bark usage significantly …

Effects Of Some Manufacturing Factors On The Properties Of Particleboard Manufactured From Alder (Alnus Glutinosa Subsp. Barbata), Gökay Nemli̇ Jan 2003

Effects Of Some Manufacturing Factors On The Properties Of Particleboard Manufactured From Alder (Alnus Glutinosa Subsp. Barbata), Gökay Nemli̇

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In this study, Alder (Alnus glutinosa subsp.Barbata) wood was used for particleboard manufacturing. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of particle moisture content, shelling ratio and the addition of wood dust on the mechanical properties (static bending, modulus of elasticity and internal bond) and physical property (thickness swelling) of particleboard. The addition of 10% wood dust to particles decreased the thickness swelling, modulus of elasticity and bending strength, while increasing the internal bond. Particleboards manufactured from particles with 1% moisture content had lower internal bond, modulus of elasticity and bending strength and higher thickness swelling values …

Studies On Lignin-Based Adhesives For Particleboard Panels, Ni̇hat Sami̇ Çeti̇n, Ni̇lgül Özmen Jan 2003

Studies On Lignin-Based Adhesives For Particleboard Panels, Ni̇hat Sami̇ Çeti̇n, Ni̇lgül Özmen

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The ultimate aim of this work was to develop a phenolic resin for partially replacing phenol with modified organosolv lignin in phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resin production. The lignin-formaldehyde relationship was determined in a reactivity test. Organosolv lignin-phenol-formaldehyde (LPF) resins were produced in a two-step preparation with different additions of lignin. The method selected for the manufacture of lignin resins dealt with modification of the lignin by the methylolation route. The effects of different substitution levels of organosolv lignin on strength properties were evaluated by testing lignin resin impregnated paper strips. A comparison of the tensile properties of organosolv lignin formulations, impregnated …

Effects Of Surface Coating Materials On The Thermal Conductivity And Combustion Properties Of Particleboard, Gökay Nemli̇, Hülya Kalaycioğlu Jan 2002

Effects Of Surface Coating Materials On The Thermal Conductivity And Combustion Properties Of Particleboard, Gökay Nemli̇, Hülya Kalaycioğlu

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The specific properties of particleboard samples used in this study were as follows: 280x210x1.8 cm dimensions, 0.68 g/cm^3 specific gravity. Produced boards were coated with lacquered paint, melamine impregnated papers, wood veneers and continue press laminates. The effects of surface coating material type, melamine paper weight, wood veneer type and thickness, and continue press laminate thickness on the thermal conductivity and combustion properties of particleboard were investigated. Results showed that surface coating material type was found to affect these properties. Melamine paper weight and wood veneer thickness did not affect the thermal conductivity and combustion properties of particleboard samples. Wood …
