Ecology And Floristics Of Knife Island, A Gull Rookery On Lake Superior, John M. Bernard, Donald W. Davidson, Rudy G. Koch

ABSTRACT - Certain aspects of the ecology and floristics of Knife Island, Minnesota, a small gull rookery on the north shore of Lake Superior, were studied. 63 species of vascular plants, and 23 species of Bryophytes were collected, including one newly recorded in this state. Very high levels of soil organic matter, phosphate, and potassium were present, and low pH levels (ranging from 3.6 to 4.2) were found.
