Origin, Distribution And Domestication Of The Carob Tree (Ceratonia Siliqua L.), Yassine Moustafa Mahdad, Semir Bechir Suheil Gaouar

Turkish Journal of Botany

The carob tree, which is a member of the Fabaceae family, is an agrosilvopastoral tree whose pre-Mediterranean tropical origin appears well established on the basis of genetic, fossil and physiological data. C. siliqua has recently been successfully introduced from the Mediterranean basin to other parts of the world that have a Mediterranean climate. In terms of its domestication, there is paleobotanical, philological, ecological and historical evidence to suggest that the species was spread by people from Arabia, where it took refuge during the Ice Age, to Mesopotamia and then on to the western Mediterranean. This ?eastern refugium hypothesis? (ERH) postulates …

Bucklandiella Seppeltii, A New Species Of Grimmiaceae From Australasia, And Its Phylogenetic Position Based On Molecular Data, Halina Bednarek-Ochyra, Ryszard Ochyra, Jakub Sawicki, Monika Szczecinska Jan 2014

Bucklandiella Seppeltii, A New Species Of Grimmiaceae From Australasia, And Its Phylogenetic Position Based On Molecular Data, Halina Bednarek-Ochyra, Ryszard Ochyra, Jakub Sawicki, Monika Szczecinska

Turkish Journal of Botany

A new species, Bucklandiella seppeltii Bednarek-Ochyra, Ochyra, Sawicki & Szczecinska, is delimited by its distinct morphology and biogeography. The geographical range of the new species is restricted to the southern-temperate and southern-cool-temperate zones of Tasmania and New Zealand, with maximum occurrence on the South Island of the latter insular country. The species is described and illustrated and its distribution is mapped. The systematic position of B. seppeltii is revealed to be a sister to New Zealand B. allanfifei Bednarek-Ochyra & Ochyra by molecular evidence based on parsimony analysis of nuclear sequences. In some morphological and anatomical traits, B. seppeltii is …

Some Factors Affecting The Abundance Of Phytoplankton In An Unproductive Alkaline Lake (Lake Hazar, Turkey), Mehmet Ali̇ Turan Koçer, Bülent Şen Jan 2014

Some Factors Affecting The Abundance Of Phytoplankton In An Unproductive Alkaline Lake (Lake Hazar, Turkey), Mehmet Ali̇ Turan Koçer, Bülent Şen

Turkish Journal of Botany

This study aimed to explain the seasonal and vertical distribution of phytoplankton in the pelagic zone of a deep alkaline lake that is characterized by low phytoplankton abundance. Phytoplankton and water samples were collected seasonally from 9 points and 7 depths between the surface and 20 m from December 2004 to September 2005. Planktolyngbya contorta was the dominant or subdominant species in all seasons and depths. The dominance of Gomphonema species was observed in December, but they were subdominant in September. Cyclotella meneghiniana was dominant at 20 m and subdominant in the upper depths during March, June, and September. Melosira …

New Records Of Corticioid Fungi With Heterobasidia From Ukraine, Olexander Ordynets

Turkish Journal of Botany

Fifteen species of corticioid fungi with heterobasidia are recorded from the forests in the middle of the Seversky Donets River basin (eastern Ukraine) from 2007 to 2011. Of them, 11 species are new to Ukraine. They are Basidiodendron rimulentum (Bourdot et Galzin) Luck-Allen, Ceratobasidium cornigerum (Bourdot) D.P.Rogers, Eichleriella deglubens (Berk. et Broome) Lloyd, Exidiopsis griseobrunnea K.Wells et Raitv. subsp. griseobrunnea, Helicogloea lagerheimii Pat., Stypella grilletii (Boud.) P.Roberts, Tulasnella albida Bourdot et Galzin, T. eichleriana Bres., T. pallida Bres., T. saveloides P.Roberts, and T. thelephorea (Juel) Juel. Two of these species, Exidiopsis griseobrunnea and Tulasnella saveloides, are still known to be …

The Asian Umbelliferae Biodiversity Database (Asium) With Particular Reference To South-West Asian Taxa, M. G. Pimenov, M. V. Leonov Jan 2004

The Asian Umbelliferae Biodiversity Database (Asium) With Particular Reference To South-West Asian Taxa, M. G. Pimenov, M. V. Leonov

Turkish Journal of Botany

An original database, ASIUM, on Asian Umbelliferae has been compiled at the Moscow State University to include all accepted names and synonyms, principal citations in regional Floras, monographs and critical articles, protologue data and distribution in countries, their regions and provinces. A special option permits the arrangement of synomyms, which can be divided into several homotypic groups. It is also possible to extract information for analysis and comparison, for instance, of species sets from different regions to estimate their similarity. ASIUM is a mobile monograph of the Umbelliferae for a continent, with their maximal biodiversity at the generic and specific …

A Study On The Autecology Of Reseda Lutea L. (Resedaceae) Distributed In Western Anatolia, Yunus Doğan Jan 2001

A Study On The Autecology Of Reseda Lutea L. (Resedaceae) Distributed In Western Anatolia, Yunus Doğan

Turkish Journal of Botany

The aim of this study was to determine the autecological characteristics of Reseda lutea L. (Resedaceae) distributed in Western Anatolia. The chemical and physical analysis was carried out on soil and plant samples collected from 54 different localities in Western Anatolia. The results show that the plant generally prefers sandy-loam and sandy-clayey-loam textural soils, with a slightly alkaline or medium alkaline pH. They prefer non-saline, calcareous soils which are poor in potassium and phosphorus, but the nitrogen content of the soils was found to vary greatly. The soil and plant analysis results were evaluated statistically and correlations were established.
