Annotated Checklist Of Invertebrate Species Observed At The Gordon Natural Area (West Chester University, Pa) 2007-2020. Version Ii, Nur Ritter

Summary Data Number of Taxa: 304 Species, in 211 Genera, 134 Families, and 32 Orders. Description As with some of the other biotic groups, the research pattern for invertebrates at the GNA might best be described as ‘intermittent.’ Former WCU professor Win Fairchild and his students conducted research on aquatic invertebrates in Plum Run, both inside and outside of the boundaries of the GNA. To date, the only data from that work that we’ve been able to obtain are from the 2007 MS thesis of Danielle DiFederico. Since that time, the only ‘directed’ invertebrate research at the GNA has been …

Annotated Checklist Of The Lichens Observed At The Gordon Natural Area (West Chester University, Pa) 2018—2020 (Version I), Nur Ritter

Description Lichen research at the Gordon is in it’s infancy. At this time, no faculty members or students have undertaken any directed lichen research. Hence, the only GNA lichen data come from observations from GNA staff, augmented by observations posted on iNaturalist (www.inaturalist.org). As with the bryophytes and fungi from the Gordon, there are numerous photos of unidentified lichens awaiting determination. The checklist was compiled from Gordon Natural Area (GNA) Staff fieldwork from 2018 to 2020. The checklist contains 31 species in 23 Genera, 14 Families, and 7 Orders. This number of species likely only represents a very small portion …

Data were compiled from surveys by Dr. Harry Tiebout, augmented by observations from GNA staff (which, as used here, includes student interns), graduate student Steven Clay, the Stroud Water Research Center, additional WCU Faculty, and members of the WCU Grounds Department. Local residents who are regular visitors to the Gordon have also occasionally contributed observations. Because herptile data haven't been systematically archived by the GNA staff until recent years, there are many gaps in the observation timeline that are clearly artificial. For example, although the observation history for the Eastern American Toad, Eastern Redback Salamander, and Eastern Box Turtle suggests …

This checklist was compiled from Gordon Natural Area (GNA) Staff fieldwork during 2017-2020, augmented by the 17 identified species in Levy et al. (2008) and by photos from Gerry Hertel (former GNA Stewardship Manager), students, and visitors to the GNA. The checklist contains 329 species in 212 Genera and 103 Families. Species are organized in three 'groupings': Ascomycetes (90 species); Basidiomycetes ( 238 species); and, Zygomycetes (1 species). Note: Slime Molds (Myxomycetes) —which are frequently included in books about fungi—and Lichens (which are included in Kingdom Fungi) are cataloged in separate checklists.

Annotated Checklist Of The Macrofungi Observed At The Gordon Natural Area (West Chester University, Pa) - Version I, Nur Ritter

Gordon Natural Area Biodiversity Studies Documents

This checklist was compiled from Gordon Natural Area (GNA) Staff fieldwork in 2017-2018, augmented by photos from former GNA Stewardship Manager Gerry Hertel, GNA Interns, students and visitors from 2007 to present and by the 17 'identified species' (i.e., not counting 'morphospecies', e.g., 'Unknown Shelf Fungus') in Levy et al. 2008. The checklist contains 268 species in 178 Genera and 92 Families. Species are organized in three 'groupings': Slime Molds (19 species); Ascomycetes (52 species); and, Basidiomycetes ( 196 species). Although slime molds aren't properly 'fungi', they are closely related to fungi and are often included in mycological studies. Hence, …
