Preliminary Phytochemical Screening, Proximate Analysis, Antioxidant And Antibacterial Activities Of An Algal Species Of Hydrodictyon Reticulatum, Mubashrah Munir, Arshad Mahmood Khan, Rahmatullah Qureshi, Sidra Murtaza, Mehmooda Munazir

Journal of Bioresource Management

The freshwater algae grow in a wide range of aquatic habitats across the globe and are rich in secondary metabolites. The present study was designed to conduct the phytochemical screening, proximate analysis, antioxidant and antibacterial activities of water net (Hydrodictyon reticulatum), an algal weed from Pakistan. The pure and dried algal mass was crushed into a fine powder and four solvent-based extracts were used for phytochemical screening. The results of preliminary qualitative screening indicated the presence of flavonoids, phenols, quinones, steroids, resins, anthraquinones, glycosides, lignin, proteins, saponins, tannins, reducing sugars, alkaloids, terpenoids, fats, and oils, whereas the quantification …

Current Scenario Of Covid-19 With Epidemiological And Phylogenetic Analysis Of Pakistani Coronavirus: A Review, Asma Altaf, Wafa Iqbal, Sidra Younis, Farah Deeba

Journal of Bioresource Management

A novel corona virus named as 2019 n-CoV was identified to be the actual cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness in Wuhan, China beginning in late December 2019. This respiratory disease was named as COVID-19 by WHO. There are many countries affected by COVID-19 including Pakistan. In this review we have provided a brief introduction of COVID-19 and discussed epidemiological and phylogenetic analysis of Pakistani novel corona virus strain. Our epidemiological analysis of data till 16th May 2020 showed rapidly increasing number of new cases, while at the same time a higher recovery rate than number of deaths …

Land Application Of Sewage Sludge: Physiological And Biochemical Response Of The Rio Grande Tomato, Nabil Charchar, Ali Elafri, Redwane Rais, Halassi Ismahen

Journal of Bioresource Management

Treated wastewater produces sewage sludge as a by-product that may have beneficial implications on agricultural practices. The effects of sludge amendments on growth, morphological and biochemical characteristics of the agro-industrial Tomato cultivar Rio Grande were observed. A pot culture experiment was carried out during 4 months (16 February 2019 to 18 June 2019), at an experimental green house in the locality of Salah Soufi, Guelma, north-eastern Algeria. There were significant differences between soil and sewage sludge samples. Total nitrogen (20.58 mg/kg) was more available in sewage sludge than in soil (N = 2.09 ± 0.3 mg/kg). In contrast, sludge …

Optimization Of Xylanase Activity In The Presence Of Salts Of Different Metals For The Pulping Of Indigenous Non-Woody Raw Materials (Gossypium Arborium), Muhammad Suleman, Abu Ul Hassan Faiz, Lariab Zahra Faiz Mar 2020

Optimization Of Xylanase Activity In The Presence Of Salts Of Different Metals For The Pulping Of Indigenous Non-Woody Raw Materials (Gossypium Arborium), Muhammad Suleman, Abu Ul Hassan Faiz, Lariab Zahra Faiz

This study was conducted to optimize the process of degradation of agricultural wastes using xylanase by pulping. The cotton stalk was treated with enzyme and sugar with different concentration was obtained. The substrate concentration, incubation time, cofactors and activators on xylanase were investigated in the pulping and bleaching process. The study presents results that at pH 6.0 with time span (3, 6 and 9 hours) of incubation produced 56 mg/ml, 75 mg/ml and 112.5 mg/ml sugar respectively. While at pH 7.0 with time duration (3, 6 and 9 hours) of incubation 64 mg/ml, 75 mg/ml and 150 mg/ml of sugar …
