Analysis For Prioritizing Risk Status And Sustainable Utilization Of Cattle, Sheep, And Goat Breeds In Türkiye, Mesut Yildirir, Seyrani̇ Koncagül, Yasemi̇n Öner, Ayşe Oya Akin

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Animal Genetic Resources (AnGR) are a warranty for future unknown conditions and needs. Due to this fact, sustainable use and conservation of AnGR have special importance, and to achieve reliable programs for these goals, the risk status of AnGR should be estimated accurately. The aim of this study was to estimate the risk status for three widely used domesticated livestock species of cattle, sheep, and goat in animal production: 6 cattle, 33 sheep, and 15 goat breeds were included in the analysis. Extinction probability (z) was taken as a criterion for the risk status of each breed. Data collection based …

Genetic Relationships Of Thrace And Yığılca Honey Bee Populations Based Onmicrosatellite Structure, Meral Kekeçoğlu, Emel Özkan Ünal, Mehmet İhsan Soysal

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Thrace and Yığılca honey bees, two important honey bee ecotypes in apicultural activity of Turkey, are the subject of genetic conservation effort. In this study, the genetic structure and diversity of honey bee populations from Thrace and Yığılca were investigated using 27 microsatellites. Except Kırklareli and Yığılca (Fst: 0.14), it was observed lower genetic divergence between the populations based on the value of pairwise Fst. Although Thrace populations (Edirne, Tekirdağ and Kırklareli) were not fully separated from each other, Yığılca population was significantly separated from Kırklareli and separated slightly from the rest of other populations. The calculated gene diversity of …

A total of 20 microsatellite DNA markers were used for genetic characterization and determination of phylogenetic relationships of native cattle breeds of Turkey, including the Anatolian Grey (AG), Anatolian Black (AB), South Anatolian Red (SAR), East Anatolian Red (EAR), Southern Anatolian Yellow (SAY), and Zavot (ZAV). DNA samples were isolated from 271 blood samples using an organic method. Amplified polymerase chain reaction products were separated by capillary electrophoresis and genotypes were determined for 20 microsatellites. A total of 269 different alleles were determined. The lowest (7.80) and highest (10.80) mean allele numbers were observed for the ZAV and SAY populations, …

Molecular Characterization Of The Nematode Heterakis Gallinarum (Ascaridida: Heterakidae) Infecting Domestic Chickens (Gallus Gallus Domesticus) In Tunisia, Nabil Amor, Sarra Farjallah, Osama Badri Mohammed, Abdulaziz Alagaili, Lilia Bahri Jan 2018

Molecular Characterization Of The Nematode Heterakis Gallinarum (Ascaridida: Heterakidae) Infecting Domestic Chickens (Gallus Gallus Domesticus) In Tunisia, Nabil Amor, Sarra Farjallah, Osama Badri Mohammed, Abdulaziz Alagaili, Lilia Bahri

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Heterakis gallinarum is one of the most recurrently diagnosed nematodes within the gastrointestinal tract of galliform birds. In the present study, we investigated the genetic diversity of 96 H. gallinarum collected from free-range chickens from different localities in Tunisia. We assessed phylogeny and genetic variability using the internal transcribed spacers (ITS) of the nuclear ribosomal DNA and the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene. Haplotype and nucleotide diversities indicate that H. gallinarum is a species with extremely low genetic diversity. Based on the networks and phylogenetic trees, there was strong support for the absence of significant geographical structuring among …

Genetic Relationships Among Four Turkish Sheep Breeds Using Microsatellites, Onur Yilmaz, Tamer Sezenler, Semi̇h Sevi̇m, İbrahi̇m Cemal, Orhan Karaca, Yalçin Yaman, Orhan Karadağ Jan 2015

Genetic Relationships Among Four Turkish Sheep Breeds Using Microsatellites, Onur Yilmaz, Tamer Sezenler, Semi̇h Sevi̇m, İbrahi̇m Cemal, Orhan Karaca, Yalçin Yaman, Orhan Karadağ

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The genetic structure of 4 Turkish breeds of sheep, Gökçeada, Kıvırcık, Karacabey Merino, and Sakız (SZ), was analyzed by genotyping with 17 microsatellite markers in 250 individuals. The microsatellites showed high levels of polymorphism, with means for total and effective number of alleles per locus of 20.71 and 7.04, respectively. The average observed and expected heterozygosity values were 0.66 and 0.87, respectively. It was found that a higher level of breed admixture existed in the 4 breeds, which was an important finding. It was also found that 7.9% of genetic variation resulted from difference between the populations, whereas 92.1% resulted …

Genetic Diversity Of Village Chickens In Central Black Sea Region And Commercial Chickens In Turkey By Using Microsatellite Markers, Levent Mercan, Ahmet Okumuş Jan 2015

Genetic Diversity Of Village Chickens In Central Black Sea Region And Commercial Chickens In Turkey By Using Microsatellite Markers, Levent Mercan, Ahmet Okumuş

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Local chicken populations in the Central Black Sea Region of Turkey have been intensively affected by governmental poultry culling due to avian influenza outbreak risks. The aim of this study was to investigate the genetic diversity of indigenous chicken populations raised in the Central Black Sea Region in order to assess genetic structures of these populations and to determine genetic relationships between the study populations and certain commercial chicken genotypes. Genotypic diversity of 45 Turkish village chicken populations located in 5 provinces in the Central Black Sea Region of Turkey and 2 commercial hybrid populations were compared using 28 autosomal …
