Turkish Journal of Zoology

This work was planned to research the effects of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and/or vitamin E (VE) and sodium selenite (SS), which have antioxidant properties, administered to the liver tissue of male rats. For this purpose, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, antioxidant capacity, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) dUTP nick-end labeling assay, liver function, and DNA structure tests were performed. The lipid profile was also evaluated in this study. Rats that were administered LPS were treated with VE and/or SS. The liver function tests and lipid profile parameters showed statistically significant changes and histological alterations in the LPS treated groups. The number of cells entering apoptosis …

Accumulation And Histological Transformation In The Gills, Liver, Muscles, And Skin In Oreochromis Niloticus Induced By Mercury, Khalid Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Zubair Ahmad, Hmoud Fares Alkahem Al-Balawi, Fahad Al-Misned, Shahid Mahboob, El Amin Mohammad Suliman Jan 2019

Accumulation And Histological Transformation In The Gills, Liver, Muscles, And Skin In Oreochromis Niloticus Induced By Mercury, Khalid Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Zubair Ahmad, Hmoud Fares Alkahem Al-Balawi, Fahad Al-Misned, Shahid Mahboob, El Amin Mohammad Suliman

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Specimens of Oreochromis niloticus (One control and 3 experimental groups) were fed diets mixed with different doses of mercury (control group = free of mercury; group 1 = 500 mg/kg; group 2 = 750 mg/kg, and group 3 = 1000 mg/kg) for 60 days in order to study its accumulation and histopathological alterations in the liver, gills, skeletal muscles, and skin. The results obtained revealed that mercury accumulation was significantly (P < 0.05) high in the liver and gills compared to the muscles and skin. The order of accumulation in these organs revealed to be liver > gills > muscles > skin. The fish fed various doses of mercury also showed histological alterations in these organs. Epithelial lifting and epithelial hypertrophy were seen in the gills of the …

Acute And Chronic Effects Of Thifluzamide On Daphnia Magna, Feyza İçoğlu Aksakal Jan 2019

Acute And Chronic Effects Of Thifluzamide On Daphnia Magna, Feyza İçoğlu Aksakal

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Thifluzamide is a thiazole carboxanilide fungicide used to control a wide range of basidiomycete diseases on maize, potatoes, rice, and other crops. Although this fungicide is found in aquatic environments, there is no information about its acute and chronic toxicity on aquatic invertebrates. In the present study, to investigate acute and chronic toxicity of thifluzamide, daphnids were exposed to 1.25, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 mg/L thifluzamide for 48 h and 21 days, respectively. The expression of four oxidative stress-related genes (CAT, GCLC, GST, and GPX) and life-history parameters such as days to the first brood, days to the first egg …
